I love that we had the Greatest Generation of young men who were willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of their fellow countrymen. Now we have a bunch of "patriots" not even willing to sacrifice putting on a mask for 10 minutes in public for the good of their fellow countrymen.
I just love how the left always has to throw in that someone who doesn't agree with them or their thinking is stupid. They always put themselves on the highest pedestal.
Forced to go back to work, even the vulnerable; essentially a death warrant for many... Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said employees who turn down their old jobs can lose unemployment benefits under small business aid program Joseph Zeballos-Roig 17 hours ago Mnuchin said workers who don't go back to work stand to lose their unemployment benefits under the Paycheck Protection Program, which helps businesses cover employee salaries. "If you offer back a worker and they don't take that job, you will be required to notify the local unemployment insurance agency because that person will no longer be eligible for unemployment," he said. Many employees are still fearful about returning to poorly paid jobs with few protections and getting infected with the coronavirus. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Tuesday that workers who refuse to go back to work could lose their unemployment benefits under the small business aid program. During a Senate Banking Committee hearing, Republican Sen. David Perdue expressed concern that the $600 boost in weekly unemployment checks was "disincentivizing" work, particularly with small businesses gaining access to loans under the $670 billion Paycheck Protection Program. Mnuchin responded he was "aware of the technical problem," and said people who don't head back to work stand to lose their benefits. I mean that is how it works all the time. If your health becomes a detriment to doing your job, you will lose the job and have to get a new job or disability. At some point businesses cant operate without staff. It is not as simple as you make it. I am facing one such case. We are going to hold out as long as possible. We have installed every safety net recommended. (Masks, social distance, gloves, sanitized offices, no public co tact etc) but at some point someone can either work or not. That line will be a moral quandary.
It is certainly going to be a tough call and there are millions of possible ways for it to play out across the country for every business. Another huge variable is whether or not an employer in given immunity if someone is infected at work, also will be a complicated issue. No easy decisions coming. Certainly a one size fits all isn't the answer. We have started bringing more people back in and haven't had a refusal yet but it may happen down the line.
Normally the health question isn’t a deadly pandemic. It’s not the same everywhere, this is probably aimed at the meat packing plants and situations where it’s a definite risk to basically anyone in the plant. They are basically giving cover to employers to not test, not provide protective gear, force the employees back to work, oh and by the way they want to give them a shield from legal liability. You could say it’s their “final solution” for those type of workers. It is not a good one.
And not stopping while cases are higher. Stopping when numbers are low. We missed our window to act early. This has been my argument. If you wait for case to use to justify to shut down, you it is then too late.
I suggested a few weeks ago that we had yet to see the true size and scope of Covid-related litigation, and I think it just got even worse; there are going to be wrongful death/criminal negligence types of lawsuits all over the place... a few well publicized cases of folks passing away after being forced back to work, and with safety still in question, and it's on. Might even pave the way for some class-actions.
This is my biggest issue with people that refuse to wear a mask. If you aren’t scared or in a high risk bracket, great, you’re very fortunate. However, many of us who have been deemed expendable, because you know, deaths happen, have no choice but to go back to work. For some like myself in the essential field with asthma and pre-diabetic, have been working the whole time. I’ve read many times in this thread how easy it is to just isolate the elderly and sick. Yeah, it’s not that simple. Not all of the “sick” are retired old folks you can just stash away in their bedrooms. I guess it’s about time my 9month and and 6 year old learned to cook for themselves, drive to the grocery store to shop, get jobs, etc since I can’t leave my bedroom anymore so people don’t have to wear a mask.
The mask is to prevent a person from spreading the virus. Virus size is 8x larger when it leaves your mouth compared to when it vaporizes in open air. Nobody is smoking cigarettes within 6' of others. I get it, you are only concerned about yourself, that much is obvious. In my world that is called being selfish
You miss the point. Wearing a mask of some sort is to protect others that may end up in close proximity to you, not yourself. It is being selfless, perhaps you should try it sometime.
