Just my opinion, but he tries to cover both sides of this. The perspective of an observer and the perspective of Arbery. Some of his comments:

    RE: going into the house

    RE: the physical confrontation

RE: the perspective of Arbery believing that he hadn't done anything wrong...

I'm not sure how many 25-year olds go into "dwellings" by themselves looking for re-modelling ideas, but perhaps the narrator has a perspective that makes him skeptical that that's the most likely reasonable interpretation of Arbery's actions. Even with that, though, he covers Arbery's rights if he had done nothing wrong.

I think he goes out of his way to just present facts and not make any moral judgments...just commenting on the legal aspects.

I'm not trying to justify any of what occurred. I did think it was an interesting point of view from a former law officer. There will be a lot of other views before this is over.

I work in the construction business and no way do I go into a house under construction, uninvited, by anyone other than the contractors we work for or the owners. Why? Because if something goes missing and I was seen in the house then there is a possibility I could become a suspect. I don't steal and I don't want to have any appearance of impropriety. I like to ride through new areas under construction and look but I stay in my vehicle.

People will strip a house of every bit of the wire in it over a weekend or even at night. They'll also steal anything they can carry off. Not everyone of course but it happens enough to be aware of the possibility.

Seems to me the officer went out of his way to try to find something exculpatory to say in favor of the perpetrators in this case. "Looking at both sides", and giving them equal weight in reporting, when one side is clearly way off the reservation isn't being balanced.

Aside from what appears to be significant bias in the officer's report, construction sites are cool to look at. See how things are built. And get design / remodel ideas for homes that are far enough along.

I've been attracted to them all my life and anecdotally I'd say it is very common for people to check out open construction sites... without any law enforcement getting called and certainly without any vigilante groups with guns hunting them down.

In fact, this is the first case I've ever heard of someone being hunted down for looking at an open construction site.

Hopefully it will be the last.

Balance from a legal perspective. "Way off the reservation" is a moral judgment, and he was mostly trying to avoid that in his assessment.

Guys hunt down a jogger at gun point.

Jogger did enter an open construction site prior to the hunt. And left with nothing.

Perhaps "way off the reservation" is a moral judgment as you say, but how are the two parties here anyway in balance as to their actions? Legal balance or otherwise?

I don't see that forcing balance into clearly unbalanced situations is in the interest of justice. In fact, quite the opposite.

I read that but from looking at the film of him in the house I didn't see where the wire had been run yet. So maybe he was going back to see if the house had been wired since the last time he was there or maybe he was there for other reasons. That's the part I can't see them making a definitive assessment of.

Maybe as somebody who wanted to work in the construction industry, he simply found it interesting to watch the house get put together, so he chose to take a look every so often when he'd jog by the house. Simply put, there are a million innocent explanations for why he'd go in for a peek. There's no evidence of the nefarious ones. He was murdered doing something a lot of other people do without incident because two losers with firearms and too much time on their hands decided he "looked" suspicious.

Maybe you are right and maybe he was looking for something to take. There is a reason the security camera was installed. I don't know but I do wonder if it was a recent install as he did not seem to be aware of it being there.

I am not accusing him of anything and I truly believe nothing he did should have been cause for his death. I simply wonder if we have heard all there is to hear on the case yet.

Just another thought/opinion. Greg McMichael is 64 years old and wears glasses. He is claiming he recognized Arbery as the same guy he saw in a video. He said he saw Arbery at some 150 yards away. Through trees and brush if you see the photos posted above.

Now I have no idea if his glasses give him 20/20 vision. But as someone who wears glasses and is 49 yrs old, I can attest that I personally could not, with any certainty, identify anyone that I have only seen on a video. At best I could say at that distance if a person was white or black. I could not even say if a person was white or hispanic or just had a good tan.

Well, if he was looking for something to take, there's no evidence he actually took anything. So we're left judging the actions of a man who did what a bunch of other people freely admit they do. And he was killed for it. I don't have much patience for the people trying to flip the script and look for a way to blame the young man.

Owner of house Ahmaud Arbery purportedly entered before shooting receiving threats
How did the McMichaels know there was video of someone going on the property unless they did the same thing and saw the security camera.
