You want: - Some folks who are the best of the best in this country working on this, - You want those folks to study, in a non-politicized fashion, the very best way for America to deal with this situation from a life/property perspective, and - You want them empowered to coordinate and implement a cogent response nationwide (b/c we should be acting in a coordinated fashion as the virus recognizes no political lines). What you want is leadership. This is the ultimate failing of Trump. He has not convened the best and brightest and freed them to recommend our best path. His largest weaknesses (narcissism, minimal curiosity, and utter disdain for collaboration) have led us to the current mish-mash of responses and utter confusion nationwide. In a time of crisis, we need a leader who unifies and puts peoples minds at ease that, although times may be tough, we are all doing the right things and our best to get through this together. Trump is the furthest thing possible from that. EVERY time in history this country has faced a crisis, people (at least initially) rally around the President. This guy doesn't want that, rather seeking division and chaos. And that is what we have as your post predicts. It is NOT all his fault but he is the President of our nation, and has set our tone and path.

Thought is interesting but I would be inclined avoid shopping at places where many people were not wearing masks. Different choices for different folks (I live with a first responder who has compromised immunity so being very careful). All I ask is that all people consider that while their immediate family may not be at risk, they still may endanger somebody else's loved one (grandparents, kids w/ asthma). Taking sensible, low hassle precautions like not going to a store if you feel bad or wearing a mask to buy groceries is just the right thing to do.

At the risk of being negative and political, I wouldn’t yet make too much of this study either. 1) Single studies have proved extremely poor in informing healthcare, especially when they are observational, like this one. This is why you shouldn’t believe that exciting new medical study 2) This study looks like a pretty rough cut to me, using total country averages to determine deaths and vitamin d levels. This is a dicey proposition, due to all the factors that co-vary with countries. Can you compare different countries? 3) Small point, but this study wasn’t done by the Mayo Clinic. That link at the end just goes to their general page on vitamin D as a reference. In the end, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get some vitamin D in your diet and/or get some sunlight, but I would like to see a lot more evidence before I got excited about its role in protecting against covid.
We are not in this because of the president, or the democrats. We are in this because a virus of uncertain origin is spreading worldwide. What I want is the media to stop talking about what the POTUS said 3 months ago, or what Pelosi thinks, or if Hillary has an opinion and post things that actually help people. Eating healthy and getting outside will likely help. But who is saying that to the public. Where are Birx and Fauci (both who I really like btw) on this?

I think this is hyperbolic, Tilly. There are plenty of news reports with tips on staying healthy. Plenty of news reports about people who have survived the virus; good medical care, etc. Are there not reports on eating healthy, how to make a face covering, good mental health practices, etc.? The information is out there and it's being broadcasted. Are the partisan media outlets giving the best "good news?" I really don't know, but I wouldn't claim that there is no good news being shared.
I wonder if they counted everyone who "might" have had Swine Flu back then but weren't tested. Also how accurate/widespread was testing back then. Cases counts currently are certainly suspect due to a number of factors.
I barely watch the national news or FOX, CNN etc anymore. The local news is really the only outlet to get actual news with limited partisanship. I will skim the various websites, FOX and CNN etc but that's about it.
Buried by the MSM. CNN and Fox are to busy trying to one up each other to put out any news that is actually of benefit. Many people look to TV for news simply because their lives dont allow the time, or they just aren't news junkies. The MSM has a journalistic obligation to be better than this. They are failing the American people while telling us how much everyone else is.

However, the media does have an obligation to report on what the leader of the free world is saying. And if it is stupid, they report on that too. That is not their fault.
