I understand where you were coming from. What would be your reasoning that it would come back stronger in the 2nd season when the norm is for the virus to be weaker as it mutates?

My reasoning is that the people who know what they are taking about lean towards it becoming seasonal. They do hedge, there is always a possibility for mutation, but they seem to think this one is different.

Maybe it will come back. Maybe it won’t. But I’m not going to bank on a miracle, nor am I going to question the collective expertise of those who actually spend lifetimes studying viruses. I’ll wait for the actual data to come in as people’s behavior changes.

Bear with me here as I admit to asking out of ignorance, but can you tell me how I am risking any other individual by not wearing a mask, keeping my distance from others, and not even opening my mouth? We have so many people so quick to judge and react, but we have so little information that people are basing their reactions on. One of the problems that I have with masks, and I have observed others doing this as well, is the constant fidgeting some people do with their mask. They are touching their face far more than they would otherwise. How does that action weigh against the action of not having that mask on to begin with?

And no, I am not kidding about the sign language and communicating with a tablet. Less moisture coming out of one's mouth (mask or not) should be viewed as a positive, no?

thinking about asking the Alachua county commission, if they want everyone to wear face coverings, maybe they should pay for them out of their own pocket.

Them touching their faces and fidgeting with the mask doesn't put others at risk though. Just wear the dang mask. Why in the world are Americans so weird about this? It's so easy. If you don't have access to buy one then they are so easy to make.

If you have concerns you should absolutely bring them up to the county leaders. Would you do this because you can't afford them or make them? Or is it because you are grumpy and just against wearing masks?

I thought the concern is them receiving the virus and potentially spreading it to others. How does not speaking, not coughing, not sneezing, not wearing a mask present a risk in that same context?

This kind of thing is starting to wear on me. If we can't express a good sound reason to do it and be able to justify it without the peer pressure angle, then the expressed action should be able to be refused (other than a business's right to require it, if they choose, of course). I see this more as a blanket suggestion to ease folks from having to think about the nuances of why a mask might be necessary. It's the complete opposite of supplying people with information, and I don't appreciate this approach at all.

I am against the fact that they seem to think they know what we need to do,like we are mindless children.so far Alachua county is doing just fine as we are, imo, they are against what the state has decided to do, so they are showing their backside, making it hard on people. hope they are there when the first person with asthma or other respitory problems collapses from having their face covered.

For the sake of this argument I will just assume you are telling the truth and will be 100% perfect and never ever expell a particle from your mouth. That's great. Do you think the majority of people would be able to do that? I certainly don't. The argument for the whole population wearing them in stores is a sound one. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But again, the slower this thing spreads the more time it buys for us to figure out how to fight it. If people fight wearing masks it could potentially cause the reopening to fail which would really suck. I know you justified how to be safe but you argument that people fidget with theirs and touch their faces hasn't been my experience and I shop in a busy Costco.

I'd add about the mask thing...even if not an n95, people should wear masks because it provides much more blocking of spreading the virus should someone be asymptomatic. Wearing one to preventing contracting the virus is less effective but even some protection lowers the risk.

Early on, I think folks in key positions such as at the CDC and other health professionals were too quick to tell people not to wear maskts. This seemed much more out of concern re: ppe shortages. But they dropped the ball. Wearing seems a pretty damn prudent thing to do.

I think it would be much worse if that person that collapsed got the rona. Also has that ever happened? The masks are very easy to breathe in. They just make you kind of hot.

I can respect this take. If you get where I am coming from, hopefully you and others can be more understanding of folks that don't wear masks and attempt to do it the right way otherwise. Save the angst for folks who don't wear a mask AND do it the wrong way. I would be fidgeter and would touch my face many more times than I would otherwise. It's not for the government to try to figure out who will and will not do it the way I do it. But putting more information out there can ONLY be helpful (express appropriate behavior for wearing a mask and for not wearing a mask). I have no problem going to a grocery store and not talking or at least making sure I am a sufficient distance away before I talk to somebody, I would much rather be conscious about that than to wear a mask that might potentially make me more likely to bring something home to my family. We're all on the same side here, let's try to find more ways we can work together.

my whole point is I am a 64 year old college graduate who knows how to conduct myself. I am not going to run up to someone and start to breath on them I know how to keep my distance, this is nothing, imo, but an attempt to tell stupid people what they need to do, to save them from themselves in other words.punish the smart to save the stupid.

How is wearing a mask for now a punishment? It is such a small and easy thing to do. I just don't get the rebellion over this issue.

These measures are for everyone's protection. It's not about the individual, smart or not. And it's not punishment even if onerous.
