Germany's first domestic case was traced to a company cafeteria, where a man touched the same salt shaker that a woman who returned from Wuhan touched. The virus will probably live for a couple of days on a salt shaker, longer if it is made of glass or metal. If the table (and everything on it) are not thoroughly disinfected after every meal, you are eating with everyone who sat at that table in the last two to four days. How much do you trust restaurant employees to thoroughly clean and disinfect everything? They might disinfect the first few days, but as more and more people line up at the restaurant door waiting to be seated, do you think a waitress is more likely to tell the people to wait, or take a shortcut and get them seated faster? Do you trust the waitress with your life?

The Senate must confirm appointees...blame the Senate. Trump would have come to heal if the GOP majority Senate had a spine.

May take a week or two for a 'new case' to possibly require hospitalization. I believe hospitalization #'s are the one to watch as potential deaths are likely a fairly consistent % of hospitalizations, until we have improved virus therapies.

including the salt and pepper shakers and hot sauce bottles...I'll not be going to a restaurant until we have bullet proof therapies or a vaccine.

Conservative groups advising White House push fast reopening, not testing

The Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus has coalesced in recent days around the same message - the need to reopen quickly. The White House did not renew federal guidelines on social distancing that expired April 30, and President Donald Trump is expected to go to Arizona next week, after a month without travel.

Simple solution. Sanitize your hands after you touch anything on that table, or don't touch your face. I will be brining my own wipes anytime I go to eat. Maybe folks shouldn't rely on others and rely on themselves to take the precautions to not get it.

What if the people without masks don't cough or sneeze and communicate only with sign language or only by text on their devices? Is that acceptable?

It’s called compromise, you get what you want by reopening society, we get what we want by protecting us from you. You want 100% freedom, we want to extend to stay in place orders. Neither of us get everything, but neither of us get nothing.

It’s also a lot easier to put groceries in a cart with a mask than food in your mouth. I’m sure they’d like to enforce it in restaurants as well but ya know, it’s kind of impossible.

then why rely on others to cook your food? Can’t you stay in and cook it yourself which would be safer for everyone?

Good things cooks inside hot kitchen while wearing a hat and mask working over a 400 degree grille don’t sweat, and good thing sweat can’t possibly drip off their faces or arms. Enjoy your lunch!

Have been for two months. I'm not worried about getting at a restaurant as I am confident in taking the precautions not to. Not to mention 86 people in my town of 43,000 are confirmed to have it, I"ll take my chances.

If you want to stay home till every last case is gone or there's vaccine than go ahead. Make sure you have all your groceries delivered and wipe down every single item you buy.

Wow so I guess you never go out to eat then, who knew a mask could make a cook sweat so much more than usual. Make sure to never get take out either, don't want that sweat in your takeout food.

I can make hypothetical situations where you could get infected at home.

I managed restaurants for over 20 years, I have a pretty good familiarity with how they function. I have pretty good familiarity with how even the best of employees pay a little less attention to details when the GM has left for the day. This is not a time to cut corners, but I promise you, they will be cut. For every employee that calls out with the most ridiculous excuse, there’s also one that won’t miss a shift unless they’re dragged out of the restaurant. Someone, somewhere will be handling food that has Covid, it’s a 100% guarantee.

I wear a mask everyday now as I’ve been at work since day one of this thing. Yes, yes you do sweat more with a mask on than without, especially if you’re wearing one in a commercial kitchen. I’m not sure how you could even dispute that.

My family has not eaten a restaurant meal in two months and will continue not to until this thing is long in the rear view.
