HPV can be very contagious and is very much a trigger for developing cervical cancer.

POTUS could tell FDA to use existing tests. POTUS could have competent people in charge making decisions to ramp up PPE. POTUS has incredible powers to influence the progression of the testing and PPE prep, distribution. There is a bigger problem in that this POTUS puts people of personal favor (ie tell me what I want to hear) in positions of authority independent of their qualifications. The pandemic has just shown us what can happen when those people actually have to do something. His first criteria for selection of an appointee is personal loyalty to him above all other things be it science, the law, or ???. that is a big problem.

I think...that you and I are in agreement here. My only point was, that for something as unknown as dosing you internally with UV radiation it is just difficult to see the FDA fast tracking something with this much long term unknown. That was my only point.

As for me, would I risk it vs. dying from Covid. Yes....in a heartbeat.

FDA wanted to develop their own tests, the WHO tests had 50% false neg(they sucked). From what I have read FDA red-tape slowed that down. Certainly Trump could have and maybe did scream at them to get knock off the redtape. I don't know what a reasonable time frame to develop and validate a test is I'm sure weeks at least.

I believe it was the CDC who screwed the pooch on the US tests. And they didn't start soon enough based on the reports that were being sent to POTUS in January.

Who was in charge of making the decision to make the CDC tests outside their manufacturing facility against their own rules? A scientist or a bureaucrat?

We also refused to buy German or S. Korean tests that were available for order.

Now that I think about it I think you are right it was the CDC.

How many tests could we have gotten from Germany or S Korea?
Certainly we could have tried work on test from multiple sources. If they were any good.

Geeky side note: I think contagious cancers are some of the most fascinating recently discovered examples of evolution. The one in dogs seems to have been around for thousands of years and now even has adaptations to avoid immune attack.

And at least one of the clam cancers has even jumped species. None have yet been identified in humans though.

You know, arrogance is one thing but the "in your face" BS for all to see from this joke of an adminstration borders on insanity. I know his lord and king said he would not wear a mask but I expected that from trump. Pence is the quintessential lap dog. He and the "orange" one have no shame...pathetic.

I saw this. I think it was terrible. If he doesnt wear a mask in US briefings, press conferences, out to the grocery store... that's his choice. Not wearing in a hospital so he can get a photo op... fricking criminal.

He said he wanted to “look people in the eye to thank them”. If the mask is covering your eyes you *might* be doing it wrong.
