this is more communicable and more deadly than the flu or other ways people catch pneumonia. If this has a death rate of .7 and half the country got infected that’s one million + dead. As a society I think we have already made the value judgment that it’s too many, even if it’s concentrated to older and comprised people. I do think it’s fair to ask what our threshold is though, every year we tolerate 34k flu deaths on average. Is 75k ok? 100k? What’s our number? And about a week into this I posted that we need some sort of nationally recognized formula based on expected years of life lost to determine our response. Though I doubt anyone has the guts to do it.
Certainly I'm going a bit over the top, but only in response to some how are so "concerned" about every COVID death that "might" be prevented if the US stays on total lockdown. We could in theory prevent hundrends of thousands of deaths in this country if we outlaw tobacco and alcohol. I by no means think we should do that but I also don't think we should stay locked down until a cure or vaccine is found either. Its the dramatic people who complan that people who want to open things up are trading money for lives and that time of response. That's what I find frustrating.
Unless he has tested positive for the antibodies.... I see many people not wearing masks, I don't think they don't have concern for others.
At the current avg rate of daily deaths(2000), the US should hit 74,000 on or before May 8th. That's long before Aug. 4th estimate. The estimate came from total deaths from April 7th to April 28th(43740/21 day) There was an 11.2% drop in deaths from 14th-21st(15455) and 21st to the 28th(13730) Assume another 11.2% drop over the next 7 days and that puts the number at 71,814 by Tues May 5th.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but we've got several people just on this board alone who think a) This is just the flu b) Our policy makers are overreacting c) there will not be more than 1000 cases (or deaths, I don't remember) d) It's a hoax to get Trump out of office e) This is only dangerous for old people f) It's important to remember how many people die from lightning strikes, automobile accidents etc. g) It's a blue state problem So . . . sorry if I missed the context of your post, but to suggest that nobody is downplaying the danger of the virus is plain cray cray.
Don't know where you get "selective information" from but how about tendering the information as to what matters most. How about we do as I propose and do the same with the flu or any other happening. I am afraid of being shot so can we please advertise all day long on every channel a complete running breakdown of those that get shot, injured, die, are hospitalized and survived. Just keep it going and updating everyday. Suddenly people would be locking themselves up in their homes and self quarantining out of fear...oh wait that is what we are all doing with the virus even though on a daily basis we DO NOT HAVE 1 million people infected. We had 980,000. The continual blasting is indifferent to what is happening in reality. Yes there is a virus but the additional drama serves zero purpose and simply causes people to do and say stupid things. We are nearing the point where people actually believe that everything and everyone is the Coronavirus! Cut the propaganda and let people live their lives without excessive fear mongering. Note that I do not propose holding back information just end the non stop number counting unless we do it for all things bad for America.
I see where it comes from, and understand this, so I'm not fully disagreeing... As someone who has made the argument that frustrates you (at least in part), it is directed at those wanting to flaunt social distancing as unimportant or ineffective, the selfish and/or misinformed. And/or those who couch it in FREEDOM!!!!! no matter the consequences, as if we don't have any responsibility for the greater good of the community/society. Having some plans to open things up and to start doesn't frustrate me. I only hope that plan is based on some careful consideration, not undirected and inchoate and/or ideological impulses. Besides, it's not as if any reasonable, rational person wants to continue in this situation, it's that we continue to face a unique danger with significant potential of causing much more harm for much longer than we can imagine.
Does it concern you that everyone doesn't want to play team "Be Afraid" all the time and are looking at both sides of the situation. If you choose to hide in the shadows and live to not die then good for you. I say again, 99.7% of a state are not infected or have died and you have zero proof that all this social distancing, standing 6 feet apart, following arrows up and down a grocery store or staying off the beaches has anything to do with reducing the numbers. You only believe it because you are told to do it. I for one believe that the virus is just running it's course and I also believe that all we are doing now is nothing more than a guess. So there, I am one of those people that would rather live than hide and none of what I said has anything to do with what politics I like or dislike. It's just my good old downplaying of something you want us all to buy into.
Lot of assumption and posturing here. I'd try to respond meaningfully, but need to run back to my hiding place in the shadows.
While all blood would pass through pulm vasculature in minutes, I can't see how a light can reach all of pulm vasculature. UV light is also carcinogenic, which is a process that typically takes months if not years to manifest, particularly when used on tissue that has no natural UV protection unlike the skin. Will we find an increase in the rate of cancer in patients who are treated by this? We wouldn't know until at least months if not years later.
I think the people that don't wear masks think they are not going to get sneezed on. If they do the virus can hit their eyes. If you're outside in the sun in FL, the virus does not live every long. I think the people wearing masks let the media create a real anxiety that is not fair to them.
Just running rough numbers: May 12th/25% drop 80,958 May 19th/37% drop 86,719 May 26th/50% drop 89,600
Kind of like how polio always just ran its course or measles would just run its course or the Spanish Flu? You can choose to ignore or disbelieve the science, the evidence, the statistics, and I don't care if you buy into it even a little. I believe in another scientific theory.... Darwinism. Be careful my friend.
Wearing masks is to try and lower the chances of you getting somebody else sick if you're an asymptomatic carrier.
Does anyone believe he’s got the slightest idea of what’s going on with testing other than touting the total tests to date? The path to getting back to work is through testing and he’s talking fantasy timelines. How anyone can’t see that having him in charge is an impediment, and not an aid, to recovery is beyond me.
