wouldn't dense populations make it difficult if not impossible to social distance? early/mid-march, Cuomo mentioned that with crowded sidewalks there was physically no way to social distance, so they began closing some streets to allow folks to spread out. Up and down on highrise elevators...dense populations also increase the odds of being in close contact with someone infected...buses, subways, taxis, ubers, touching many and multiple objects likely touched by someone infected. City people are used to being in close contact with strangers daily...
My war on WarsOn**** is succeeding spectacularly. The best ever! There's only one guy from Thailand who hasn't signed on, and we have that totally under control.
perhaps it is the stress on the health care system that is driving up the mortality rate. Now take that and raise it exponentially and you would have the results without the measures that have been taken
which increases infection rate but once infected you grow your own viral load far in excess of the load that infected you
From what I have read, the amount of virus one is exposed to can actually make ones case worse. That is possibly why healthcare workers are at such risk. Not only are they exposed to the virus, they are exposed to more of it and for longer periods.
Also, I have wondered if these folks who are showing up as unknown asymptomatic cases from antibody testing were exposed to a smaller amount of it -- just enough to produce antibodies for it and in effect, inoculate against it. I have no idea if that is the case, just a theory.
That is my understanding. Kind of like allergies. In small controlled doses, one can use allergy shots to build up your body's response to it. In large doses it makes you sick, and for severe allergies it can kill you.
making one hyper infectious? and very sick? EDIT: So we might want the plasma from someone highly infected and survives? Having produced a increased number of antibodies...
Really proud of Texas and the way this mess has been handled by our government and citizens. By just about every metric we are way better than average. And that’s with the s***show that is Louisiana next door.
What do u attribute that to? Gov action or good luck. Texas is quite spread out as a state which helps or maybe Texas got lucky the virus didn't spring up during football season. Imagine the virus loose in Texas stadium during a cowboys game. Last I heard, Louisiana s problem seems to be Mardi gras related.
So the political narrative from fox and the republicans is that the Democrats have shut down the economy and the good ole republicans are just victims. They are protesting in states with Democratic Governors right next door to states with Republican Governors with the same stuff going on minus protests. How dumb do they think their followers are?
If you have a high viral load, you are more likely to infect other people, because you may be shedding more virus particles. However, in the case of covid-19, it doesn’t necessarily follow that a higher viral load will lead to more severe symptoms. For instance, health workers investigating the covid-19 outbreak in the Lombardy region of Italy looked at more than 5,000 infected people and found no difference in viral load between those with symptoms and those without. They reached this conclusion after tracing people who had been in contact with someone known to be infected with the coronavirus and testing them to see if they were also infected. Throwing this out there. In the Iceland study, they found 290 mutations of the virus just in their country. So could there be many more competing mutations in a more dense population like NYC? Thus putting a greater strain on one's immune system.
read NYC was likely seeded by travelers from Europe vs China...I believe I read the flu vaccine has to be altered each year to react to the latest aggressive mutations. Some mutations are less virulent than others. I can imagine the best vaccine attacks the fundamental virus structure or function common to many or most mutations.
some questions answer themselves. I think the “liberate” BS by POTUS yesterday is probably the most irresponsible thing he’s done, and that’s tough to do, like saying something was MJs best dunk. There are just so many to choose from. But effectively issuing a call to arms in 3 states during a pandemic whose governors are generally following CDC guidelines by tying it to the 2A? That truly shows what a depraved, sociopath we’ve elected to lead us. And it’s going to get crazier the longer this continues and the longer Biden leads in the polls.
