Thanks for the links. However, reading the Reuter’s/Yahoo story I couldn’t help thinking it read like something that had been written or significantly edited by the PRC Ministry of Information.

 

Generally patients with ARDS need higher pressures to ventilate (this is due to the ARDS lung becoming stiffer), that makes the ARDS worse as higher pressures cause more lung injury, as does the use of higher Fi02 (Oxygen percentage). Same goes with increasing PEEP (that's like adding back pressure helps push the 02 into the circulation through the lungs).
Back in my RT days we would on occasion get someone with ARDS that would need Peak Inspiratory Pressures of 80 mmHg, normal healthy lung would run in the 20-30 range for comparison.

 

IT is notable Germany has such a lower mortality rate then say Italy and Spain don't you think?

 

No.

 

So you don't think its important to figure out why the Italian and Spanish mortality rate is 3-4 times higher than the US or German mortality rate?

 

Sweden has been held up by some as a model.... But her neighbors are doing much better.

Especially when you look at the population adjusted numbers.

 

Maybe because with two Tylenol or Advil someone can get can past most temp checks?

 

Sure, but some is better than none.

 

Because they only had resources to test the most ill in the country. Not that hard to figure out. Much like the flu where we basically guess how many cases each year, Italy's health minister estimated that they had 5-8 MILLION undocumented cases in their country. Add those in and the denominator changes dramatically on your mortality rate calculation.

 

The irony of a post-Brexit Britain, where casual racism was behind a lot of the sentiment to leave... is that now it's unavoidable to see the benefits of diversity in our nation. Love this video - things are changing.

 

Countries with lower culturally ingrained social distancing would have been more vulnerable to the spread of this disease before experts started working the problem, if said experts are correct.

Etiquette in Scandinavia

Culture probably has more to do with the lower mortality rates in Scandinavian countries than the gender of their heads of state. These countries already have strong gender equality, so it shouldn't matter whether a man or a woman is running the country.

Which is what makes the decision by New York to increase the # of deaths to include suspicious COVID-19 fatalities a bit odd. They choose to inflate the numerator but have done nothing to adjust the denominator for what many say are a vast number of undetected cases. The state should be extrapolating the suspected # of additional, undetected infections/cases by testing their sewerage. It seems that NY almost wants to cheat to win the "highest CV-19 mortality rate" contest.

That’s story is one every person should read.

ERs have become war zones.

Sadly, the medical staffs are being exposed to conditions that have affected them mentally and physically. There will be many PTSD issues after this has subsided. I see suicides increasing.

If we don’t learn lessons from this,,,,,

can you imagine 50-85% of all US hospitals being overrun by this unmitigated virus? Horrifying to consider. re-opening without proper mitigation tools in place could lead us right back to the brink...
