Another 783 deaths in NY today. Up 6 from yesterday.

 

There will more than likely be a chopping effect for the new week +/- 2000 for the next 3-5 days before there is a slow decline.

I read somewhere that projected peak was 2900 new deaths in a single day.

 

It is in the entertainment section because it is entertainment. And bogus.

The early herd immunity theory was advanced by a military historian affiliated with Stanford’s Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank. It has gotten a lot of play on conservative websites, but there is nothing to back it up. Just a theory, not backed by research.

 

And just think that if we didn't shut down, what those numbers would look like. It's going to be 5k deaths lone this week in NY.

 

yep, its crazy that some think that this will just peak and drop off in a week or two. As I said, I expect 2000(nationally) a day for the next several days before there is a slow decline over the next month. It will be mid May when we get back down to 500 a day. Deaths are a laggard.

 

New York state (mostly NYC) now has more deaths than Los Angeles County has cases (LAC >10 million).
New York - 8627 deaths
LA County - 8453 cases (244 deaths)

 

As expected, crossed 20k deaths today.

 

Interesting. I solo cycle but do not keep a safe 65’ distance when overtaking slower riders or when being passed by faster riders. Heck it’s not possible to maintain a safe distance when passing by a rider or riders cycling in the opposite direction.

What’s a bit concerning is there are still some group riders tightly packed who could be trailing a significant droplet cloud. I guess wearing a mask would help but still could pick up droplets in eyes. Man, I can’t give up the rides, just too good for the physical and mental health.

 

if 60000 is the estimate, one third the way there, at 2000 or so a day, maybe we reach the end by may 1, lets hope, although wishing for death is never good.

CNN is sure trying to advantage of a crisis. Yes, the US leads the world in number of cases and deaths. But if you compare the stats with the next 5 countries excluding China, our numbers don't look as horrific. Why 5 countries?

The population of Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the UK combined falls short of the US by the population of Denmark, so I'll add Denmark's stats too:

Spain+Italy+France+Germany+UK+Denmark

US

I signed up to donate my unused personal computer processing capability to a very high tech medical research effort performing statistical simulations of protein folding, a key to understanding how the Coronavirus bonds with human membranes. The project assigns packets of computations which your computer completes and returns. All research is shared.

It is sort of like being assimilated by the Borg, only without the unpleasant cranial drilling. On the other hand, no 7 of 9.

The distributed F@H network, started at Stanford in 2000, has picked up 400,000 additional computer owners just in the last few weeks who donate their unused CPU and/or GPU time. It is the first exaflop supercomputer, which is more powerful than the 7 fastest supercomputers in the world combined. Their goal is a million members. You might want to check it out and help. Doesn't cost a thing, and gives your computer something to do when you're not on Gator Country.
