Lies. You can’t quote an attack on the China Travel Restrictions. Here’s what liars do:
    • Claim Pelosi was against the travel ban when the travel ban she referred to was the Muslim ban
    • Claim Biden was against the ban when the only comment they can find is Biden saying to lead with science and not xenophobia and fear. He never attacked the travel restrictions.
Lies lies and more lies from the right.

No. I dont need it to be right...just pointing out that the data sheet has been evolving almost daily...the articles on that site are often older and some keep using previous numbers.

I give little credence to the CNN articles dates. After the falsehoods the spewed during Hurricane Florence here locally I have come to except they will exaggerate to the extreme limits to drive a story.

But it is confusing how that site has multiple dates.

I am just choosing to cite the daily data sheet as it changes in real time.

Let's just tip our hats to each other on this one and pray its May.

Trump didn't ban all travel into the county from China. There were still multiple planes originating from China landing in the US after the ban. The planes just didn't have Chinese citizens on them. But this certainly didn't stop the virus, which doesn't care about nationality, from entering the country. And the people on those planes certainly weren't all tested and didn't all self quarantine.

Trump should have done more. But he was too busy saying this would all disappear one day and saying he doesn't take any responsibility.

It's good that we are testing million . Better late than never. We should have been testing at this level weeks ago. Again, when we had the time, we squandered it.

As for a second round of the virus, it will likely come. But at least this time there will be some immunity for those already exposed. And months of knowledge in how to treat those who are sick. Probably no vaccine ready at the time, but things won't be as bad.

Except he didn't shut flights from China down. Americans and their family members along with permanent residents who were there still came back, some 6,000 of them. I guess Trump must have thought only Chinese nationals without US green cards were capable of carrying the virus. There were also exceptions for trade.

46 counties and territories had restrictions in place effective before the US and 12 more that became effective the same day.

IC sounded the alarm in November 2019. Pentagon and WH both alerted then. They knew it was bad in China a full 3 months prior. Included in the POTUS daily briefing easy January. POTUS likely too busy on Twitter to listen and incapable of reading anything with that much info. Who could have predicted this? Anybody that was listening to the IC, thats who

Intelligence report warned of coronavirus crisis as early as November: Sources

One month ago. I was scanning what the board was discussing a month ago. I think this one is the winner.

All of us should steer clear of declarative statements when we are not fully informed. We don’t KNOW a lot of things.

We don’t know what the Captain on that carrier communicated before the famous e-mail. He might have been working inside the chain of command with a poor result. He might have gone off too soon. We don’t know. We’ll know after an investigation that is surely coming.

Ripping or exonerating the Captain is premature right now just as that poster didn’t know this was a runny nose and short term cough.

    Discuss. Debate. Learn. All good.

Digging in to a position and defending it without facts. Not so good.

Hey, I know there is Trump insanity rampant on this forum (both pro and con), but it's possible to discuss the WHO without it devolving into another Trump Trump Trump. I will make the assumption if Biden was President right now, China would have still covered this up, muzzle and kill their people and doctors trying to get the truth out, and the WHO would have still enabled their cover-up. Biden might have reacted differently, and may have given much better messaging. However whoever was president, i don't think the aggressiveness of the actions would have been much different than now (maybe so) but that is my opinion.

Inertia is a real thing and it does not see red or blue. I won’t say that any other leadership would produce the same result. I will agree inertia would have pushed back on anyone.

I don’t know. Trumps aggressiveness and actions are typically bluster so I don’t overreact to his threats. I’d call them out as unprofessional if I did weigh in. Just like we’re going to look at the US governments handling of this pandemic in hindsight with congressional oversight I’d suggest a review of the WHO is appropriate too.

I've said this before, but the CDC postulated prior to this outbreak (the epidemiologic study referenced in the policy review below) that travel bans, include trump's miracle semi-ban, is ineffective at stopping a pandemic. They do have the benefit of delaying the outbreak so that preparations can be made. We did NOTHING of import in the weeks following the ban. It, given our current world leadership position in cases, was a wasted effort.

    Excellent article....this stood out:
(Note: NCMI = National Center for Medical Intelligence, a component of the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency.)

"The report was the result of analysis of wire and computer intercepts, coupled with satellite images. It raised alarms because an out-of-control disease would pose a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia -- forces that depend on the NCMI’s work. And it paints a picture of an American government that could have ramped up mitigation and containment efforts far earlier to prepare for a crisis poised to come home.

"Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event," one of the sources said of the NCMI’s report. "It was then briefed multiple times to" the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s Joint Staff and the White House. (bolded emphasis added.)

From that warning in November, the sources described repeated briefings through December for policy-makers and decision-makers across the federal government as well as the National Security Council at the White House. All of that culminated with a detailed explanation of the problem that appeared in the President’s Daily Brief of intelligence matters in early January, the sources said. For something to have appeared in the PDB, it would have had to go through weeks of vetting and analysis, according to people who have worked on presidential briefings in both Republican and Democratic administrations."

The “he shut down flights from China” is an inaccurate lie that is continually being repeated by trumpsters. They are holding on to a fallacy to try to show he didn’t totally shit the bed and hoping that by repeating it enough, people will believe it. That lie has been repeated and debunked on this site numerous times but it will continue.
