Trump saved them? Seriously? By his national stay at home order?

This will probably make most on here's head explode but contrary to belief, there is more than one scientific perspective on this cluster bleep we've got ourselves into. If you've got the time, it's worth the watch.

Did anybody else see that Trump apparently has a stake in a company that makes hydroxychloroquine?

I guess, but it seems like a leader’s popularity can do in a crisis without even bothering to think about campaigning. George W was probably never more popular than when he said that thing about the wanted poster after 9/11. It wasn’t at all about left vs right or even really himself.

Gov. Cuomo requested more Hydroxychloroquine for NY. Maybe he's Trump's silent partner on the deal.. You exposed them!

Maybe Trump has been pushing that drug relentlessly because, like most everything he does, it benefits him.

He's probably pushing it because many people think it works and is very helpful. It's in his interest for our COVID 19 episode to end as soon as possible and for our economy to get back on track. In that respect, his interest is aligned with all of ours ( unless the hatred for Trump is so intense that Trump going down is worth our economy going into a depression and many lives being lost). For those who want Trump to lose in November, plenty of reasons are there without what happened in the pandemic.

On the patient side alone it seems like the hospital is engaging in gross malpractice.

I'm really sad about your sis's situation. No matter what, our healthcare workers are as courageous as they come--and so many are frightened like the rest of us, yet they go back day after day. That's bravery. I don't want to overstate my cousin's situation. She didn't balk at not wearing a mask. Not that they were treating it lightly, just that they all understood the possibility of running short on ppe. In a sense, a calculated risk--but one where there is any basis to determine the risk. She's fighting it and it sucks but so far in *decent* shape.

I don't know why a simple medication like hydroxychloroquine can be so politicized and polarizing. It's not a hoax, and it's not a cure. It's a medication that has increasing evidence to be helpful in preventing the progression of disease, enough so that it's a part of almost every major medical center's standard regimen. It's used on practically everyone in the hospital in NYC, probably burning through a lot of supply, and probably why Cuomo wants to limit its use outside of hospitals. Hundreds still die each day there, but very likely dozens if not hundreds more would die each day if it's not used.

It is what it is--one of the hopefully many tools to come in our arsenal to fight COVID-19, so please stop trying to bend it to your political narrative whichever side of the aisle you're on.

And this is precisely why it's somewhat dangerous to go off spouting non-scientific information. She's a believer now and will spread the gospel far and wide that hydroxychloroquine is the cure. Some people are going to read this and assume the crisis is over because hydroxychloroquine will save you. No need to distance or quarantine. Yay!

Yes, she recovered, and that's great. She also took hydroxy chloroquine. It may have helped. It also might have made absolutely no difference. Lots of people recover, even without the hydroxychloroquine treatment. Correlation does not prove causation. We simply don't know for sure, and we won't until we study enough outcomes with and without hydroxy chloroquine to prove a statistical improvement happens. I'm worried some will prematurely claim victory and let their guard down...

My issue isn't with somebody using the drug. My issue is that it was curious that Trump spent so much time touting it as a miracle cure, and now, we find out that he might be profiting off of it. When you look at Trump's behavior as President, he consistently acts for his own personal interest over the country's. So yes, I think it's worth investigating and discussing if he's personally profiting from the drug he keeps touting as a cure.
