United flight crew refused to work SFO - SYD flight with 150+ passengers from Van Damme cruise. Would United have responsibility to inform others on plane that they were transporting people that had likely been exposed?
An article from USA Today puts the blame squarely on the communist party in China, for all of their hiding of facts in their early response to the pandemic: Blame the Chinese Communist Party for the coronavirus crisis I wasn't aware that China was hoarding medical supplies while they were lying about the severity of the virus. Those people who are blaming Trump for his "mishandling" of the coronavirus should remember that the U.S. was repeatedly lied to by China. I doubt a democrat politician would have done anything significantly different (although all would say so in hindsight). Bill DeBlasio in New York famously told New Yorkers to go about their lives normally and continue to eat out at restaurants. Who knows how many deaths that statement is responsible for?
Op-ed piece. China's errors do not absolve this administration from its errors. I also find it amusing to point a finger at China for withholding information when our own president has gagged health officials, spread mistruths, refused to make officials available to congress and classified all internal deliberations. Oh yeah... I'm whipping out the hypocrisy card!
You still haven’t addressed why Trump listened to Xi over our own intelligence. I can guarantee you that no other President we’ve had or major candidate that that ran for office the past 4 years would have done that.
I don't think our intelligence knew the full extent of China's lying until much later. The CIA does not maintain hundreds of medical spies that can gather information and statistics at hospitals around the world at the drop of a hat. China had the most knowledge about this virus early on, and they appeared to share that knowledge. Unfortunately, they were only sharing lies that benefited both the world's perception of China as well as their level of preparation for dealing with the virus (i.e., hoarding of supplies). If a communist government wants to keep the world from knowing something, they are usually moderately successful for a period of time, and the truth comes out later. China severely punished people who dared to tell the truth about this virus. Even if some intelligence came out of China early on, a president would be wise to be skeptical of that intelligence until it was verified. Presidents are not supposed to make rash decisions based on a small amount of evidence. Only Monday-morning quarterbacks expect that perfect decisions can be made on an imperfect set of facts.
Regarding the Queens Speech: Very uplifting talk by the Queen Mum. Could use her inspiring words once a week.
India bans export of malaria drug favored by Trump India Bans All Exports of Virus Drug Often Touted by Trump India banned all exports of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that President Donald Trump has repeatedly touted as a “game changer” in the fight against Covid-19. Exports of the drug and its formulations are prohibited “without any exceptions” and with immediate effect, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in an April 4 order on its website. The trade regulator had last month restricted overseas shipments of the drug, allowing only limited exceptions such as on humanitarian grounds and for meeting prior commitments. At a press conference on Saturday, Trump said he spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed for the release of shipments U.S. has already ordered. India is giving his request “serious consideration,” he said.
Japan to shut down...likely too little, too late. was surprised by their approach to this Japan PM Abe to declare state of emergency as early as Tuesday: Yomiuri TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will declare a state of emergency over the coronavirus as early as Tuesday and will likely announce his plans to do so on Monday, the Yomiuri newspaper reported.
My thoughts are the best wishes for anyone who has been ill. It's not very pleasant. It's certainly a different dynamic - most British PMs aren't in the family expansion era! Can't recall the last time we had a Downing Street baby!
