There is a thread on NBN on the corona virus. Sad to look at pages 6-8 where people were saying:
    - Covaid is nothing but a cold.
    - Not more than 1,000 Americans will die
    - The panic is a political ploy to attack Trump/Republicans
    - We should get back to work as this will be over in weeks

The loss of life and total cluster$%^& in handling this by our Federal government, and politicization of a medical/scientific issue by many Americans is having tragic consequences. How did America, the wealthiest most powerful country in the world, get so polarized (or ignorant) and disorganized that we can't even protect ourselves in a crisis?

Taxpayers Paid Millions to Design a Low-Cost Ventilator for a Pandemic. Instead, the Company Is Selling Versions of It Overseas.

This should be criminal. Taxpayers funded design for low cost no frills ventilator that got FDA approval HHS paid for 10k of them, company not building them since all resources being directed to higher priced models that they can't catch up to demand. This is an instance where it should be justifiable for the gubmnt to seize the company. This is the third time taxpayers paid for design, testing, and certification of low cost ventilators and have nothing to show for it

It was one outlandish poster who you got into a pissing match with. That poster later fessed up that he was wrong. I think he was even more level-headed than fever if that is saying much. LOL

I’d bet he did that because his prior requests went unheaded.

I'm sure he knows what the proper protocol is, he didn't get to command an aircraft carrier without knowing something that simple. I agree with you that he most likely did report via proper channels but didn't get the answer he wanted. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised that the military intentionally wants herd immunity one unit at a time, which is probably not a bad idea.

It just occurred to me that Trump is now the "leader" of a country where everyone must cover their faces...

If you go back there were multiple people saying it was "a flu", was being "over played" and that there was political motivation. Just like on this thread. It is true that one guy was playing Don Quixote, and I did get into it him, even though my Mom taught me "never argue with an idiot, they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." Put him on ignore - see Mom, I am educable (in short intervals)! Just so damn frustrated - usually the right wing anti-science BS just translates into horrendous general policy on education, the environment, and health care, but here it directly cost lives.

Holy shit the numbers are really bad today. 1300+ deaths in the US, 32k positive tests (I realize these are people that were tested previously), and 680 deaths in NY alone.

And who knows when it will abate. My entire family lives in the NY/NJ/CT hotspot. Thankfully my parents and most of my aunts and uncles live in rural areas north of NYC and can stay extremely isolated. But i have my parents isolating from each other because my father for some unknown reason decided to go to walmart this morning. He won't be doing that again. My mother flipped out on him.

wonder if it is possible to seperate the ny/nj infected numbers, the death numbers from the rest of the country. seems almost half of the infected cases, and over half of the deaths come from there, wonder on a daily basis how the rest of the usa numbers compare so we can see how fast it is spreading.

Some people think it's not good to follow the numbers because they frighten people too easily; more at be aware but don't dwell on it. I think there is much validity to this as far as mental health goes. But I also think following them can help (me at least) adjust and understand what is going on, I just have to try to maintain a certain amount of emotional detachment from it.

I think it has been the anti-intellectualism, anti-science, anti-elitism, and the death of expertise that lately seems to have become a litmus test and championed among a segment of the US population.
