I find Red Bull's considered (and rejected) plan dangerous. I think an individual has the right to self-infect but with these community-sensitive caveats, both of which are unattainable: 1. complete quarantine 2. last priority when it comes to health resources I also think an organization advocating self-infection puts unfair pressure on its members/employees. Glad they rejected it.
Well Boris Johnson keeping schools open two weeks longer really seems to be paying off. 3000 cases there today (their highest yet) and 381 deaths. That would equate to roughly 2k deaths here. and oh by the way, Sweden had their highest base count today too.
So many more at home that can't be tested. People were told to self isolate and visit hospitals if it worsened. No widespread testing at all.
Italy’s cases held at around 4K today which is good news. Deaths were still north of 800 though. to put what a complete tragedy it has been there in perspective, more than one out of every 5000 people in the whole country has died from this in roughly the last 2 months and mostly the past 3 weeks, with many more coming.
The difference between the Italians and Germans is glaring. The Germans have 67,987 cases with only 707 deaths. That's a mortality rate of .0104 versus .1175 for Italy.
Ive noticed that as well... what is Germany doing differently. Or what is different about the Germans who get it?
Here's my post from #639 and I truly believe it: "You may laugh at this...but it's a completely accurate contrast between these two cultures. Italians are stubborn people who don't respond well to authorities telling them what to do. When they speak to each other they get right in your face and breathe the air you breathe. On the other hand, Germans respect authority figures and follow rules and regulations. They keep respectful distances between themselves." When Chinese doctors came over to help Italy they were asked their opinion on handling the crisis. They said people were still taking public transportation in tight settings and going about their day like nothing is happening.
I'm not sure if this is the case though. There are almost 70k infected in Germany currently and growing. It's just not killing as many of them as it does Italians. Maybe their overall health is better? Germany has about 17 million 65+ while Italy has around 12 million. Just like others I'd really like to know what Germany is doing differently.
Starting with China, every country has an obligation to do as much as possible to eradicate every "wet market" within its borders forever. A war on terror of another type.
Germany is testing much more widely. Their actual infection rate is likely much, much less. They're a few weeks behind Italy, probably at similar stage as us right now. Getting started early can prevent overwhelming of the healthcare system. That's when you get the ridiculously high mortality rate.
and countries without wet markets need to put full court pressure (ie no trade, no banking) on countries that refuse to shut down wet markets and confirm shut downs with international inspection teams given free access to verify.. this is the 4th coronavirus to come out of China. that is 3 too many not to have learned our lesson by now.
Wuhan citizens claim that deaths from Coronavirus there are at least 40,000, as opposed to the 2,500 that the Chinese government is claiming. They say that the incinerators have been working non-stop for weeks. China is paying victim's families 3,000 yuan ($500) for funeral expenses (or hush money). Wuhan Residents Dismiss Official Coronavirus Death Toll: ‘The Incinerators Have Been Working Around the Clock’
I was just about to post something about their numbers. There is absolutely no way on earth they haven't had very many deaths in the last couple weeks. It simply doesn't work like that. Their curve just turns into a cliff that drops off. Its complete BS.
likely identifying all that are infected instead of just the ones going into the ER and they are earlier in the process of infection so the cases haven't had time to do the most damage combined with the healthcare system not being strained yet.
“......China says they have no more new cases, no more new deaths, yet they just closed all movie theaters nationwide only a few days after having opened them up...adding that Wuhan mortuaries also tell a different story from government officials. “They say they’ve only had 2,500 cases that resulted in deaths or so, yet a single mortuary has ordered more than 5,000 urns. You can look at these basic facts to know that the Chinese Communist Party is still lying today, as they were in December and January, and that’s why what could have been a local problem in Wuhan turned into a global pandemic from which more than 2,000 Americans have now died.” Sen.
