Sailors were screened prior to returning on board. The first three sailors tested positive 15 days after leaving Vietnam, officials said.
    ……………………..
Of the first 33 Roosevelt sailors testing positive, seven, or 21%, originally tested negative. After testing negative, those seven sailors presented symptoms within 1 to 3 days after their initial negative test, Crozier said.

Lawrence Korb, a former assistant secretary of defense in the Reagan Administration, said that “it is very unusual” for a ship captain — someone who is typically on a career track to become an admiral — to write such a letter.

“It shows that this is a person who is putting the welfare of his sailors ahead of his career,” said Korb, a retired Navy captain who is now a senior fellow at the left-leaning Center for American Progress think tank

That you take precautions to reduce the risk in inherently risky activities

Seatbelt, helmet, octopus, don't surf/wade fish at dawn/dusk, keep safety on when not prepared to shoot, etc .. same precautions I take when I do activities that involve risk. Just because I choose to take precautions doesn't mean I have to stay on my couch curled up in a fetal position. For this pandemic the precautions are clear yet some refuse to take preventative measures. I can't understand that mentality

Between this and its ability to remain viable on surfaces for extended period of times, it’s probably just a matter of time before the majority of the population is infected.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the elevation of Seoul is 38m. He glanced at the wiki and suddenly knew more about South Korea than anyone.

Cruise ships + New Yorkers. They were destined to be an initial hotspot, but don’t be deluded into thinking it won’t get everywhere. Just means they get it first and are ahead of the curve.

Yes, I’m very hopeful that more suburban areas were able to act early, Italy gave us about a 2 week head start. Hopefully that head start keeps us from worst case scenarios.

No other place here had it either, until they did. "One person from China" was the thinking that got us here. "They're all in Miami" is just an extension of that.

Yeah I saw that after my post.

Spoke with my friend from there, she left the area. She also said there was a marathon that was a Boston Marathon qualifier so there were lots of people from all over in the town.

Interesting with Race Week/Bike Week and Spring Break Daytona area hasn't been hit much.

People leave after Bike Week or Spring Break. So they are likely new sources of infection wherever they came from. Though it’s not like locals are immune, maybe it’s just that a very high % of beach goers were from out of town.

Some good news there, looks like social distancing has reduced fevers which are a flu symptom./

But what I mean is if the sick(but asymptomatic) were in town, they mingle with the locals.... and its packed wall to wall close contact. I would think locals would be getting it in greater numbers.

Not sure if you have ever seen Main Street during bike week.... It's shoulder to shoulder.
