Because of the international travel, our response should have been more responsive and decisive instead of dismissive and fairy tales.

What specifically would you like to have seen done around Feb 26th with regard to international travel?

the incompetence should be criminal at this point. if anybody else did something to cause this many deaths they would be on death row

The officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, said they “didn’t need emergency funding, that they would be able to handle it within existing appropriations,” Murphy recalled in an interview with Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast.

“What an awful, horrible catastrophic mistake that was,” Murphy said.

On Feb. 5, Murphy tweeted: “Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough. Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.”

Murphy told Yahoo News that the funding he and other congressional leaders wanted to allocate nearly two months ago would have paid for essential preventative measures, including hiring local screening and testing staff, researching a vaccine and treatments and the stockpiling of needed medical supplies.

How about it? Uh, I'd say it has nothing to do with the question you responded to. I asked what specifically should have been done in February regarding international travel.

You mean there are cases that slip through the cracks? No way. Thanks for the insight.

Trump missed it when he received intelligence assessments in the early days of the China outbreak. I will find a link on a bit. And, it is Trump’’s job to understand how to address this. The South Koreans did. If your defense of Trump is that he is an incompetent moron, it is weak. This was not a surprise.

Well having protocols for testing(at a minimum taking temps) every flight and taking names coming in would be a start.

Not make a proclamation that travel from China has been banned, then let every returning flight come in unchecked.

Trump never actually banned flights from China or Europe. Why?

AP FACT CHECK: Trump’s inaccurate boasts on China travel ban

No, he isn’t carrying Fever’s water. He is reviewing data. And the data from Oxford is important because Great Britain is roughly where we are. They were going to implement herd immunity and were late with stay at home orders. And Oxford is credible research that has the advantage of time and experience. Neither model says the measures being taken should not be taken. The situation in hospitals does not change the assessments. Under both assessments, the hospitals would be overrun. The Oxford study underscores the need for blood tests for antibodies.

The Public Health Laboratories in the US were made aware of the virus on Dec 31st, 2019. That was essentially the initial point that action could have began.

As for Trump’s information, see post 4233. Health care can’t prevent people from getting the virus. It can only treat and it cannot if overwhelmed. And treatment options are limited. So, this disease has little to do with the health care system. Except that very seriously ill people need access to have a chance to live. If they need oxygen or ventilators. As you know. And since there is no cure, the disease has to run its course. And, Trump has intelligence. The best in the world. He bears the stain of ignoring it. If the WHO was late, so be it. Trump is POTUS. Not the WHO. But, he is a small, petty, stupid narcissist who thinks he is smarter than experts and made a decision to not want the numbers who get this disease counted. He said it himself when he discussed the ship off California. He wanted the numbers low. He put the people of this country second.

Also if our infectious disease team in China wasn't cut we could have had information even sooner.

Coulda woulda shoulda just proves that hindsight is 20/20. Which doesn't prove anything at all. I mean if I had invested in Apple in 1980-whenever, blah blah blah. Do you have examples of any other country taking action by Dec 31st? How about Jan 15th?

    S. Korea. They started preparing early January. Trump had experts warning him in early Jan too. He ignored them and called it all a hoax to take down his Presidency.

If you had experts back in the 80s all telling you to buy Apple and you didn't, maybe next time you'd take responsibility for not listening the first time to the experts, and listen the next time. Trump? He doesn't take any responsibility.
