Fever there is no way on God's Green Earth that in 4 days this is topping out for the simple fact testing is ramping up 10, 20 ,30 times the daily number of tests done previously. I lean to the side that this is a very serious situation but that those who talk about millions of deaths in the US from COVID-19 need to be shot. On the other hand my Nurse Practitioner girlfriends' college-age son and 8 of his friends went to Key West last week and had a grand time without concern. That age group is not taking this as seriously as they should be.
Yes, but the virus will still spread through them. Just at different rates. I would guess/theorize that suburban areas would naturally have a "flatter" curve (and rural areas could be quite flat). Problem is these suburban areas would also have much lower healthcare capacity. So even if their "curve" is naturally flatter, their health care system breaking point is also much lower than a place like NYC. But it does give them more margin for error perhaps.
I hope you realize the rest of the country is already dead cat top bouncing. NY and NJ are 100% the difference from today and yesterday and they will be topped out in a few days.
Problem is that as of a few days ago, we were massively behind. We may well be catching up, but the idea that we're surpassing other countries already simply isn't realistic (you're also not accounting for different population sizes in looking at the number of tests).
Proof please. provide links. And it is quite obvious you are just parroting something you read on one of your conspiracy sites. You have used "dead cat top" at least 5-10 times. Do you ever have an original thought of your own?
You literally wrote that it is a "meaningless statistic" and your use of the term "perspective" was quite different than mine. If you admit that the statistic has place, then no need to come back and defend here. Hang in there, bro. I don't agree with your recent stance in this thread, but I'm there with you in spirit.
it's not the sole factor, but the U.S. being the #1 immigration destination for Chinese contributes to this. Top 10 Chinese Immigration Destinations | China Whisper There must be other factors (I think tourism and commerce) that contribute to Italy being hit so hard.
consuming a LOT of personal protective gear that would be better allocated to people treating patients is one possibility
facts just do not matter to some people, they continue to purposely propagate misinformation for whatever reason
Trump had this, ignored it. More interested in when flavored vaping would get approved again Before Virus Outbreak, a Cascade of Warnings Went Unheeded Before Virus Outbreak, a Cascade of Warnings Went UnheededBefore Virus Outbreak, a Cascade of Warnings Went Unheeded Government exercises, including one last year, made clear that the U.S. was not ready for a pandemic like the coronavirus. But little was done. WASHINGTON — The outbreak of the respiratory virus began in China and was quickly spread around the world by air travelers, who ran high fevers. In the United States, it was first detected in Chicago, and 47 days later, the World Health Organization declared a pandemic. By then it was too late: 110 million Americans were expected to become ill, leading to 7.7 million hospitalized and 586,000 dead. The World Knows an Apocalyptic Pandemic Is Coming new independent report compiled at the request of the United Nations secretary-general warns that there is a “very real threat” of a pandemic sweeping the planet, killing up to 80 million people. A deadly pathogen, spread airborne around the world, the report says, could wipe out almost 5 percent of the global economy. And we’re not ready. The ominous analysis was compiled by an independent panel, the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB), which was assembled last year in response to a request from the office of the U.N. secretary-general, and convened jointly by the World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO). Co-chaired by the former WHO head and former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland and the head of the international Red Cross, Elhadj As Sy, the GPMB commissioned expert studies and issued a scathing attack on the political, financial, and logistical state of pandemic preparedness affairs. “Preparedness is hampered by the lack of continued political will at all levels,” read the report. “Although national leaders respond to health crises when fear and panic grow strong enough, most countries do not devote the consistent energy and resources needed to keep outbreaks from escalating into disasters.” Pandemic simulation exercise spotlights massive preparedness gap That scenario, Toner says, is utterly realistic. "We don't have a vaccine for SARS, or MERS, or various avian flu viruses that have come up in the past decade," he notes. "That's because vaccine development is slow and difficult if there isn't an immediate market for it." In the simulation, CAPS resulted in a death toll of 65 million people within 18 months—surpassing the deadliest pandemic in history, the 1918 Spanish flu. From the discussions Event 201 inspired, the Center for Health Security plans to release a set of formal recommendations within the coming weeks. Shortly after the simulation, the center released the Global Health Security Index, the first-ever comprehensive ranking of countries on their pandemic preparedness. All in all, the picture was discouraging: The average score, across 195 countries, was 40 out of a possible 100. "It's our hope," Inglesby says, "that countries will use this to consider where they are strong and where they are weak."
I have a dream where we all put him on ignore and he goes away. I'll volunteer to be first and ask others to join me and maybe we get enough to get that coveted herd immunity
Spain is now being hit as hard as Italy. France is next. Then it'll be Germany and the UK. Based on climate the UK should be last, but they were trying out their "herd immunity" strategy so that probably brought their timeline up a bit.

I've been working 20 hours a day as the PE firm I am an employee of has control investments in Companies with 20,000+ employees. It sucks making tough choices, but every tough choice we made was tough for us more than the hourly workers (many of whom are laid off, furloughed, etc., etc. so it is just tough for everybody). You simply can't pay people when you aren't open for business and that sucks, but I'll go to bed at this evening knowing I did everything I could. We went above what was required by state and federal regulations to do the best we could for each family. On to the fun part I just caught up on Trump's news and it is unbelievable. I've never seen a more self-interested, stupid, and self-defeating leader. I issue my apologies to Elizabeth Warren. People on Too Hot before the pandemic knew I stated numerous times that I would vote for anyone except her over Trump as I thought she was the greatest threat to the long-term systems of our country. I'd vote for her with Snoop Dogg as VP over a Trump ticket in a second. It's simply mind blowing. When I was watching CNN 3 hours a day one week ago, you almost get numb to it. Having done nothing but work from my home office and ignore my poor kids and wife and you see him talking about going back to work and Easter Sunday church it is simply unbelievable. I know of 2,000 employees that had jobs Sunday but don't now. It's depressing. Many logical people on both sides knew Trump would blow up. I didn't realize the actual, immediate human impact it would have. Yap about car crashes, every other country has to deal with this, or whatever you want. Trump's short-term retweets to try to get the market back are comical (good luck with that). I can't even imagine if I had a relative that had tested positive. Need me a drank as I will be up again at 7:00. Haven't read any of the updates, and sincerely hope it is two trolls that are still defending our soon to be ex-President. Most importantly, hope everyone is safe and healthy!
I'll tell you this, cluck. I didn't know what to make of you for awhile. Now I know. It's nothing good I kid I kid. Seriously, your self-awareness and willing to adjust your views given new facts/reality makes me smile. Hard to appreciate your having to make those tough choices if only the tough choice I had to make was whether or not to bump final grades up for some of my graduating students. But that you have this awareness of the impact speaks volumes.I'm glad you see Warren in a different light. I didn't respond to your posts ripping her a month or so ago (or was it even that long?) because you had your view and it was based on some first-hand knowledge. All I thought to myself was that maybe he's jaundiced--especially because I saw her toughness in a different light. Anyway, we are in for some rough seas ahead. Trump pumping sunshine notwithstanding. For me there is a seemign endless well of disgust I have for him. I'll leave it at that.
Thanks for the kind words. Really was a tough day. I wasn’t making the final decision. Was a group where I am a mid/senior level employee. One thing I should edit in my post is “it sucks as bad for me as the hourly worker.” Was literally sick to my stomach, but can’t even imagine being on the other end. Sadly, it wasn’t a “decision”. A global pandemic has shut businesses down. You simply can’t have employees if you don’t have an open business to employee them. And if we opened all businesses, the downside faaaaaar our weighs the upside of having a profitable few months. The biggest assholes on Wall Street understand that, even people getting laid off understood it. Trump’s cult is the only group that won’t.
