oh the irony: still seeing ads for sandals resorts, beaches resorts, and various foreign countries.....yeah going to run right out and book that trip to sandals (as if you can still even get there these days)

Interesting that the purchasing department of that large hospital was unable to locate and purchase those very same masks. Also, can’t believe there wasn’t one employee in purchasing or maintenance available to make the drive to pick up the masks. This “report” seems to fall short in the “makes sense” department.

No one probably waived the procurement procedures, we are so awash in red tape. Or some other stupid reason.

So it likely took a guy with his checkbook.

Meanwhile the rescue bill just failed.

feels like 2008 when TARP failed the first time and the market dropped 10% the next day.

They need to get their collective heads out of their collective behinds and get this done ASAP.

Dr. Emily Landon is the chief infectious disease epidemiologist at the University of Chicago Medicine, who moments after Pritzker issued the ordinance to take effect Saturday evening, took to the stand with a 7-minute-long speech that went viral after striking a chord for many individuals.

it’s between 1 and 2 trillion of money we don’t have, and will take us generations to pay back. They are trying to spend it in a weekend. If it takes them another day or 2, the stock market can do what’s it’s gonna do.

A major sticking point is a $500 billion pool of money for loans and loan guarantees that Republicans want to create, which some Democrats are labeling a “slush fund” because the Treasury Department would have broad discretion over who receives the money. There is little precedent for a program with a similar size and scope.

Here is foxnews reporting on it - Senate fails to move forward with coronavirus 'Phase 3' bill amid Dems' opposition

The message is similar, and I'm sure we've all heard it before. Dems fighting for more benefits for poor, republicans trying to go top-down. Same old, same old.

We're never going to be able to pay back what we already owe. I can get by without the money but there are others who are going to be really hurting soon.

Dems are blocking a bill that bails out rich corporations but does nothing for average Americans.

well the way the bill was structured as of today I won’t get any of it, I am out of luck regardless, so no dog in the fight for me from that regard. And yes people will struggle. And the reason they are trying to get it done tonight is primarily for the markets, they want positive news before the open. That isn’t a sane long term reason with the dollars involved.
If we are going to spend $5000 dollars or more for every person in this country and add 10 percent to our national debt over a weekend, a day or two to make sure we are getting the most for that expenditure is fine with me. The market will do better as will the people currently suffering long term if the money does its most good.

I don't disagree with you overall but even if they get it passed it will take time to get the money out there. Seems to me this is one time they could put partisanship and oneupmanship aside and come to an agreement. If they want to help businesses that should not be included in this bill. This should be for families and individuals only.

An important point in Dr Blunt's presser:

How can soccer or book club be so dangerous? Why ask so much of people for just a few hundred cases? Because it’s the only way to save lives. And now is the time. The numbers you see today in the news are the people are the people who got sick a week ago. And there are so many people who got sick today who haven't even noticed that they got sick yet. They picked up the virus and it'll take a week to see that show in our numbers. Waiting for hospitals to be overwhelmed will leave the following week’s patients with nowhere to go. In short, without taking drastic measures, the healthy and optimistic among us will doom the vulnerable..........

Even starting now we can’t stop the cases from coming fast and furious at least in the next couple of weeks and in the short term but with a real commitment to sheltering in place and a whole lot of patience, we can help protect our critical workers who need to use public transportation in order to safely get to where they need to go. We can give our factories time to ramp up their production of all that PPE so that we have enough masks to last.

We can make more medications and learn more about how we can use them to help save more lives. Even a little time makes a huge difference. It will take more than a week to start seeing the rate of increase slow down and that's a complicated thing to say it will take even longer to see the rate come down and see it slowing and infections going down so please don't give up.
