That's the rumor going around, which if true is great. That's the whole point of the social distancing.
A doctor claimed it was only about 550 yesterday morning in the whole U.S. but its probably concentrated in NY state now.
Per the worldometer website that people reference (and seems to be a great source.) 18K cases in the US now (going up quickly!) but only 64 of those cases are serious. Not 6400. Just 64. A good sign...
From the New England Journal of Medicine Interpret with caution, it's one study. Yet it's a bit disturbing imo. Coronavirus aerosol and surface stability: 3 hours in air 4 hours on copper surfaces 24 hours on cardboard 2-3 days on plastic and stainless steel *I love how researchers immediately spring into action to make discoveries in both the public and private sectors.
And just to lighten things up a little... This was a story that just hit locally- the first case in Spartanburg county. (Where I live.) The man also visited a school- which threw everyone into a tizzy. Turns out-the guy just wanted a 2 week vacation... Sheriff: Inman call center worker arrested, accused of lying about having coronavirus This is why we can't have nice things- bozos like this. sigh.
That number is no more accurate than the recovered number. We had about 98 die on Wednesday and Thursday. No way that happens on 64 serious cases at a time for this disease.
up 27,000 from yesterday and climbing Coronavirus Update (Live): 272,068 Cases and 11,302 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Outbreak - Worldometer
It's great news. Unfortunately, 30,000 test kits are just a drop in the bucket. Maybe other companies will start producing similar home test kits. What we really need are 30 million and even that number would be insufficient.
Based on the weekly numbers from the same site, here are the rates of increase of known cases compared to previous week: Feb 28: 1.97 Mar 6: 5.07 Mar 13: 7.53 Mar 20: 8.33 (with 10 hours to go)
I had a friend in college who didn't want to go to his fast food job, but also didn't want to get fired, so he called in with hepatitis. Someone from the CDC showed up at his apartment the next day.
Agree. It's a caveat I should have mentioned. Yet at the same time, the increase still portends trouble since it is just as (and possibly, more) likely that the virus is spreading quicker than the rate of increase in the number of tests.
That is a reason they ask questions. Hopefully, you are living your life like you have been telling everyone else to live.
L.A. County gives up on containing COVID-19, tells doctors to skip testing of some patients The nation’s second-largest municipal health system has told its staff that it is essentially abandoning hope of containing the coronavirus outbreak and instructed doctors not to bother testing symptomatic patients if a positive result won’t change how they would be treated. The guidance, sent by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services to its doctors on Thursday, was prompted by a crush of patients and shortage of tests, and could make it difficult to ever know precisely how many people in L.A. County contracted the virus. The department “is shifting from a strategy of case containment to slowing disease transmission and averting excess morbidity and mortality,” according to the letter. Doctors should test symptomatic patients only when “a diagnostic result will change clinical management or inform public health response.”
Nice of them to hype this while there are like 600 or so inpatient hospital cases in the entire U.S. right now. I wonder how many inpatients are in the entire state of CA - about 150 for coronavirus if you average the numbers? I would love them to post an inpatient number for flu people at peak season and compare.
Somebody probably will when this is all done to try to prove that the response to COVID-19 was all a liberal hoax to take down the president, conveniently ignoring the fact that the numbers aren't comparable because we are actively trying to avoid the spread of this particular virus by creating the social distancing that has everyone so upset. So the numbers will NEVER be comparable, good or bad.
You would be well served to stop following Cernovich and believing him. He is spreading false information. that may be affecting your opinions.
I wonder if this might not be the far apex of the anti-science/anti-government/anti-elite pendulum so prevalent in Republican circles. As the pendulum has swung so hard in that direction but now hits the hard wall of national emergency; to whom are citizens looking to for help, relief, and answers? Largely scientists - researchers, doctors, public health experts, Government - to organize (sit down Trump) government resources and aid.
