I think we were doubling the number of deaths every 2.5 days. We are up to 100 deaths I believe. If now is not the time to take these measures when would be? If there were 500 deaths and it was doubling every 3 days? A thousand and doubling ever 4 days? 10,000 doubling weekly. If this isn't a crisis when would it be? How do you think they got the NBA, MLB, You are correct but how does that mitigate the offense? If it's harmful and unfair to label a panic by its country of origin it would be worse to label it by the country that informed to world of its existence.
Wow, you must have quite a bit of expertise in epidemiology, public health, and/or biostatistics. Amazing that you managed to do all that considering your expertise in federal law enforcement and the legal system and your knowledge of how polling is conducted. You must have quite a set of degrees and work experience to become knowledgeable on all of these matters...
I saw an infectious disease doc on TV yesterday in NY who said it would likely be 30-45 days before infection rate NYC peaked and rate of increase slowed, longer with ineffective social distancing. Hopefully that's wrong but I think your week to 10 days is probably optimistic. BTW, where did you go to med school?
Wow. I had no idea AIDS was killing that many people daily. Mostly Africa I assume. ...and my County just got it's first case. Travel related they say.
Also their massive inequality is a big factor. They have people subsistence farming and people who are billionaires, in many case We are about two weeks behind Italy, and they haven't hit the top yet. What makes you think we will hit the top in 10 days?
This doesn’t help. Meet your silent carriers. That’s in Miami. I hear we may have some old people there.
Yep, it's about creating an "us vs. them" perception where Trump isn't at blame for anything that happened because the Chinese are. It is something you often see authoritarians do. It's what the Nazis did to the Jews. You need a scapegoat to blame for being the cause of the problem. It's dangerous, irresponsible, and abhorrent.
Poll: Americans View Wuhan Virus As A Bigger Threat To The Economy Than To Their Health More Americans see the pandemic over the Wuhan virus as a peril on the economy rather than a threat to personal health, a new poll from the Pew Research Center released Wednesday finds. Pew reports that 70 percent of Americans believe that the outbreak poses a major risk to the nation’s economy, while 47 percent say it is major threat to the population’s health. Just 27 percent said they believe that the new virus presents a major hazard to their own personal health and 51 percent say it’s a minor threat. Twenty-two percent even believe that the outbreak poses no risk at all to their health. ---------------------------- People are waking up just a little bit apparently...
Disturbing as it is, I expect this from that age group. Given that they are still out partying, they aren't reading through the news and going to the CDC website or trying to understand the deeper issues or implications. If these were 40 or 50-somethings, different story.
Mods: Since the world is going all Survivor Island, if this post can get 10 winner ratings, can we vote a poster off the boards for a week? Not me I have immunity, I just got back from a 2 day "hiatus"
No one here is the "cause" of the problem. Could more have been done to cushion the cause? Sure. But no person "caused" this...unless you want to blame the first human infected somehow. And I think that a better way to attack the Chinese government blaming our military would be to just address it. Not naming the virus. It's a needed strategy but the wrong battle plan.
Of course. There is very much a "duh" factor with these poll findings. The coronavirus will impact everyone's finances and have a greater financial impact on the average person, than a personal well-being impact. While concern for "threat to personal health" rated lowest among the variables, concern for "the health of the U.S. population as a whole" was much higher. Concern for "your personal financial situation" was actually lower than concern for overall U.S. health. That figure obviously contradicts your narrative. Most importantly, we don't quantify the value of our loved ones' health the way we do our personal and global finances. You can't place a simple value on the loss of a loved one. It's much more impactful than loss of one's financial resources.
