In Italy, 23 percent of the population is over age 65, compared to the US, where that population is 16 percent. “Extended longevity has played some role in changing the population structure,” says University of Oxford demographer and epidemiologist Jennifer Beam Dowd, lead author of the new paper. “But it actually has most to do with how rapid the decline in fertility has been in a population.” That is, it’s affected more by Italians having having fewer children than it is by them living longer.
At the same time, young Italians tend to interact a lot with their elders. Dowd’s Italian coauthors note that young folks might live with their parents and grandparents in rural areas but commute to work in cities like Milan. Data on the composition of Italian households bears out this familial arrangement too"

I doubt China's numbers are totally accurate as well... Probably double the number of cases at least

    I definitely have cabin fever.
I think its an elaborate scheme to cause the American health care system to fail in order that the socialists can force single-payer health care on us.. The hospitals are already overwhelmed, health Ins companies will begin to fail and who will pick up the pieces? Nobody but your friendly big government overlord. Quarantine or else comrade.

Well, it doesn't seem to be absolutely necessary to wait for new equipment as there seems to be an extensive network of dealers offering new and refurbished equipment - just google.

I would think if a hospital needed more equipment, they could get it in house quite quickly. Perhaps the House should have added a "50% to 100% of cost investment tax credit (ITC) for Chinese virus related medical equipment purchases" to their emergency legislation. Maybe the senate will add that to the legislation.

My boss used to work for the UN and he literally just told me this. Old folks live in the homes of young folks in a much different way than they do here.

I also here its crazy how bad the old people are being treated there by the young since this took off. Just anecdotal but they said very selfish actions by the younger people even though they are big moochers on the older people (relatives) over there. They also have some areas Chinese low wage labor was imported big time for industry.

yeah we are basically saying the same thing. They have more elderly & the hospitals are overrun thus the elderly aren't even getting treatment at this point.

The Spanish Flu (the 1918 H1N1) didn’t originate in Spain.

Correct. Spain just wasn't heavily censoring their press so it appeared they were the source.

Interestingly, a recent study suggests it can from... Wait for it.... China. 10s of thousands of Chinese laborers were brought to dig ditches in France. Most arrived ill and dying.

I am aware. That does not make it "racist" to call it that. It just makes it erroneous.

Doing it to establish blame, which is exactly what is happening, does. And it has real impacts.

But that’s the typical Trump playbook. Turn to xenophobic comments to distract from his failures. Then the fault is the “other” and not his incompetence.

Our first case in Brevard county is a 76 year old that just returned from NY. This county has a HUGE population of retired New Yorkers.
