    Italy's numbers have updated:

4,200 new cases today with 475 deaths. They are in their 12th day of lock down? I'm wondering if the lock down is causing the increases?

I don't know the specifics, but usually when acts are enacted, they allow normal regs/laws/operations to be sidestepped for the time being in order to permit certain actions and mobilization of resources to deal with the problem.

Reports out of Italy for the past week have suggested that younger people have been getting sicker than was being reported. Also that the virus doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to why it can infect two people of the same age in one household and both have completely different reactions.

Probably attributed to the first northern lock down rather than the country lock down.

When they did the first lock down was announced, 1000's rushed to the south bringing the virus with them.

So Italy's death rate has climbed to 8.3%, the highest in the world. Let's see what France looks like when they update their counts.

Here's an article that puts some light as to why their numbers are so high.

Why the Coronavirus Hit Italy So Hard

Because everything is racist these days. No one is offended by the Spanish flu, and there are multiple cuts of CNN peeps calling it the same thing.

Racism is an intent to take away rights based on a race. It is an attempt to limit advancement and equality based on a race.

Calling a virus by it's nation of origin is not even close to racist. In fact, it borderlines on insulting true victims of racism.

Italy seems to be an outlier... Note the higher mortality over all compared to China. Also note the UK has a higher Mortality compared to the US..

Same reason calling some types of bees "Africanized" When something like this is perceived as racist, it's to say race/ethnicity/nationality.

For a little individualistic perspective, my Japanese wife blames China/China's government for not cracking down on the markets that created the opportunity for this virus to jump to humans, but perceives the intent of calling it "Chinese virus" or "Wuhan flu" as racist--and even in a pan-Asian sort of way.

Big city, not surprised. This is the time to move away from large cities and wait this out.

FWIW I think China is lying. Also this person wasn't saying young people are dying just that they are having more serious reactions than has been reported, thus taking up hospital beds causing the elderly to be left to die. Maybe that's why Italy's is higher?

And there is a large NY/FL crossover. I would bet there are many leaving NY to come to FL. to beat the shelter in place. And they will bring more of the virus with them.

    From the link:

"In Italy, 23 percent of the population is over age 65, compared to the US, where that population is 16 percent. “Extended longevity has played some role in changing the population structure,” says University of Oxford demographer and epidemiologist Jennifer Beam Dowd, lead author of the new paper. “But it actually has most to do with how rapid the decline in fertility has been in a population.” That is, it’s affected more by Italians having having fewer children than it is by them living longer.

At the same time, young Italians tend to interact a lot with their elders. Dowd’s Italian coauthors note that young folks might live with their parents and grandparents in rural areas but commute to work in cities like Milan. Data on the composition of Italian households bears out this familial arrangement too"
