Calm down. Unless you are elderly or have a compromised immunity system, you will be fine. That's a fact. The only fact we know is that the younger you are, the more it is nothing more than a cold. Look at Tom Hanks and his wife - both in their 60s and Tom has Diabetes. He's fine. So the best thing we need to do is quarantine the elderly and those with underlying conditions from the rest of us and we will all be fine. There are 48 million people in the US 65 and older. They are at risk and 22% of them that catch it will die. The rest of us have a .2% average. This is serious but don't get it confused with the Spanish Flu. This isn't the Pandemic we have been waiting for and that's a good thing. We get to learn from this since obviously we didn't learn anything in the 2009 Pandemic.
Interesting, yet alarming thread on a COVID-19 model. Touches on the UK's reversal of strategy. Not for the faint of heart. Most of the content is below the opening tweet, so click on the tweet to read more.
I am calm; you don’t know what this is nor do I. But the fact is it has medical professionals and C level business leaders freaked out enough to actually shutter businesses for a time. When have you ever seen capitalists actually forego making a buck? However, it appears you are hardwired into this so much that you know more than anyone else speaking publicly on the topic. Please call the White House and tell them what they need to do!!! Your immense genius and talent is being wasted here on the Too Hot message boards!
He's unflappable. 10s or 100s of millions of deaths are barely even a set back to him. So in a way - I'm sure he's calmer than most anyone here.
During H1N1 we tested everybody in the ER with symptoms. Health departments wanted it for surveillance.. I've recounted my experience 30% of the people I'd see on a given shift had it.
A) They are measuring immune response its not just "if they get sick" B) They aren't going to give the test vaccine to older people so the youngest are most likely to not to get ill or have few "adverse events" C) GCP prevents just testing without following the normal conventions afforded all human research participants. First do no harm
OMG,,,,,, Chic fil a has just gone drive through only. The reason I say is,,, their drive through is slow when there’s dine in.
The 2009 pandemic had a 0.02% death rate overall. 10% of the death rate you just blew off as unimportant.
I believe there is much foreign dis-information out in the virtual world, with the explicit intent of sowing dissent. I choose to get my info from either the NIH or the CDC team directly.
Seems that to avoid the situation below (O'Hare this past Saturday), the government may be erring in the opposite direction.
Been the case from the beginning. Vice News sent a reporter to cover the outbreak in Milan and she walked through the airport with nobody even asking her a question before she went into self-quarantine. She noted that likely very few people on her flight out of Italy did the same.
I'm not in the sky is falling camp, I try to base decisions on facts. But I can't for the life of me understand why people over 60 or with severe health issues would press their luck.
I told this story yesterday, my wife was at local hospital for spinal decompression treatment, lined up answering the question about exposure...etc. Old dude(she said like 80) next to her just got back from Europe 3 days ago completely belligerent that they wouldn't let him in to go to the Gym!
