I wonder how many dead people it’s going to take before some people on here take this seriously 1,000...10,000...100,000...1,000,000? Not everything is a deep state conspiracy or politicization of an issue. I truly feel sorry for some of you that see everything this way. This virus doesn’t care if you’re Democrat or Republican. If you think that all these people got together to create a police state...that’s just...nutty. I’m sorry, it’s just nutty. Virology doesn’t care about your libertarian sensibilities. The virus doesn’t sort based on ideology and it’s playing out in real time about how the different countries have handled it. For your own sake, read stuff that’s outside your silo. Draconian measures may be the only way to flatten the curve and save lives. If that impinges on your ability to be yourself for 8 weeks...then so be it. A sensible individual that cares about his community and the people around him or her, a good neighbor, might see the utility of personal sacrifice for the greater good. However, too many people have read Atlas Shrugged believing they are John Galt when they are nowhere near the genius protagonist created by Ayn Rand. Just no...spare me the freedom speech. You’re asked to live in the comfort of your home away from government and people and your only complaint is that they told you to stay there. This just smacks of my 8 year old son saying he doesn’t want to. It amazes me that so many people on this board simply don’t understand what they sound like. This country has become a place where everyone believes that they are special and that they are more important than anyone else no matter the situation. The idea of sacrifice to the commitment of freedom over the horizon has been completely lost on everyone. I’m not immune to this criticism, but at least I have the common sense to listen to the health professionals in this country instead of believing that it’s some grand conspiracy to rob me of my freedom.
That all sounds great until your 8 year old loses his house because you lost your job. Most of what you say is true...but much of the pushback is honest fairly placed fear.
Interesting. I just got through telling my 17 YO he could not go camping with his friends. An argument I used was that as infections go up more & more people will lose their jobs. This is a critical time to flatten the curve to PROTECT people & their livelihoods. Remember an ounce of prevention is not free, but it costs a helluva lot less than the alternative.

I can think of a lot of jobs that are essential, I am assuming they must go to work. I mean someone has to run the grocery store. Someone has to keep the electricity on. How are they defining essential jobs?

I just found it again. It will not, Mr Philippe said, affect essential businesses which he listed as food shops, chemists, banks, tobacco shops and petrol stations.
