They had a bunch of Chinese returning from China in parts of Italy. Also Chinese ad agencies were sending Chinese out asking for hugs while China was dealing with this in addition to this Mayor with his PC nonsense. Not sure why their death rate is crazy high compared to many other countries with a lot of confirmed cases. I thought their socialized medical there was supposed to be real good.

Because their hospitals are completely overwhelmed by the sharp curve. They are literally having to abstain from caring for those 80 and up.

Right with their great socialized medicine. Even other socialized medicine countries have no where near the deaths per cases reported. They are at Iran's level.

Our great privatized medicine won't fare any better if we experience the type of curve they have.

If other countries fare better it's because they did something differently.

Italy’s population skews heavily to the older side. I knew that but saw a graph the other day and there was a stark difference between Italy and South Korea.

According to a podcast I just listen to called Checks and Balances, from The Economist magazine, China is to blame for its initial denialism, which may have committed contained it. But they have since been handling it well, and they are mocking United States and using it as an example the Western democracies do not handle things better

About time...Western Europe being naive let people spread this much more than it normally would have. Even countries that took some smart action on flights got nailed by having mostly open borders to allow the people in.

do you ever take off political bifocals?

Italy is the oldest country in Europe, that’s why. Higher % of seniors than just about anywhere in the world.

Do you really think our capitalist health care system will fare better? We can’t even freaking test people and are running out of g*d d*amn masks and gloves. Is there a corner ventilator store somewhere when the hospitals run out?

That doesn't explain their crazy death rate. Its literally worse than anyone even Iran. They either didn't have many treatment beds, equipment or something. Heck even China's numbers are not in the ballpark of theirs per capita wise unless they are just not telling the world how many of their people actually died and their ICU beds per capita numbers were crazy low compared to the U.S.

All the Canadians at my condo have been notified that their insurance coverage will be discontinued as of the 23rd of March if they don’t return home by then. They are all leaving early to get beck before that date.

I would guess that’s for all Canadians in the US since they have national health coverage?

I have zero faith that Iran and China reported numbers honestly.
