Let's revisit this in 10 months.

 

We're at a point now where retirees and near retirees are going to lose trillions in savings. Tens of thousands of full-time jobs, if not more, will be lost. The stress on families that will no doubt cause is not even quantifiable. And are we going to do this every time a new strand comes around? We are certainly getting to a point where we need to ask ourselves if we didn't cut off our arm to save a fingernail. That is a completely appropriate question to ask.

 

Where the hell are you getting that? To this date, not one child under 10 has died from this and the vast majority of the deaths are 60+ or those with underlying health issues. Really, if you are under 50, you should be really happy. Kids do get COVID-19 but the symptoms are like a normal cold to them. That's good and bad. Good in that this virus is leaving the young alone. Bad, because they can still carry the virus and infect others who may not be so lucky (Grandparents). 2009 was not so kind to that demographic.

Oh I'm not a scientist but I have it figured out. West Virginia has 0 cases of corona virus.......It only makes sense that Moonshine is the cure.

Google is your friend. Here's the latest death toll in Italy. Over 1800, and counting. Here's the article about parts of Italy not admitting those 80 and over into hospitals. It's war-time triage.

The key to not making the US look like Italy is to flatten the curve. Italy thought this was just another flu, didn't cancel anything like Serie A Soccer matches, and now look where they are at. At least we've taken the precaution of canceling all sporting events for the time being.

Italy has an older population than the US, but the numbers aren't that far off. And while kids don't seem to be affected too much, the elderly and those with immune system issues are.

In China, about 1 in 5 needed medical attention because of Corona. Currently in Kirkland, WA, the number is close. But just imagine if 2% of the population needed hospitalization. In metro Phoenix, where I live, that's nearly 100,000 people in an area with maybe 20,000 ICU beds. And this doesn't consider normal ICU demand.

This is the worry. If we don't have the hospital beds needed, the mortality rates will be higher. Flatten the curve, and we'll still be in for a fight, but it will be more manageable.

 

Just saw that some of the big casino resorts on the vegas strip will be shutting down. Can't say I'm surprised

 

Did you see where the Canadian scientists replicated it? It's a big deal makes it easier to study.

Because maybe it has to do with the particular epidemiological factors involved that makes combating covid-19 pandemic different?

 

compare the mortality rates of the 2 and you will get it. One is up to 150 times more lethal, I will let you guess which one.

Perspective from a friend who is an oceanographer by trade but teaches multidisciplinary

Unfortunately it was bound to happen from an biological perspective. I teach it as the environmentalist's paradox. Most species that grow as fast as we do face consequences due to environmental resistance by degradation of their environment. Like a deer over grazes their food source. Humans have managed to avoid the consequences due to our unique ability to to modify our environment. One hypothesis is that it will catch up with us. If this isn't it then it may be a precursor.

We don't have many cases because we haven't tested worth a shit. Pretty simple concept.

 

Funny. We have a bunch of testing going on now but of course in all these countries except for some specific instances like in Korea people arent being checked just to check them so the number is going to come from the people now showing possible symptoms for the stuff.

The open border/let everyone in mentality in Western Europe led to them not stopping the travel and flights from China citizens until they were loaded up with initial carriers and then they should have closed their borders sooner also.
