    The key take away from that graph in the context of the Bejing's extreme quarantine measures (and acceptance outside China that they've done some good) is how big and serious the problem is. About all they could hope for is to slow an exponential trend, not actually arresting it.

    Iran, a nation of about 80 million people, has suffered a particularly deadly surge of coronavirus infections, including among its top leadership. Iran’s Health Ministry says that 429 people have died of the virus, which causes the disease known as covid-19, and more than 10,000 have fallen ill. Among the dead are members of parliament, a former diplomat and even a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader. At least two dozen other officials, including a vice president, have been infected.

    In Qom, the spiritual center of Iran’s ruling Shiite clerics, more than 846 people have contracted the virus, officials say. Iran’s government has not released an official death toll for Qom, however, where about 1.2 million people live. But videos, satellite images and other open-source data from the cemetery — a vast complex six miles north of the city center — suggest that the number of people struck down by the virus there is significantly higher than the official figure.

    It could be. I think part of the concern here stems from there being so much unknown compared to typical colds and influenza.

    The 3 major issues with this disease are: 1. It is a lower respiratory infection. Not upper. So it is in the lungs. 2. It is highly contagious. 3. It is new; no one is immune and the body doesn’t recognize it.

    and it transmits much more effectively than the flu. We stocked up on Mucinex in the event that we have to try and self treat. Seems like that may be the most effective over the counter treatment for this respiratory virus that is precipitating pneumonia. No idea if it will help. Lots of zinc supplements to help boost the immune system. Also have a nebulizer with lots of boxes full of albuterol for breathing treatments if we have to self treat in place.

    No. It transmits much easier, incubation period with no symptoms is much longer, and it survives longer on surfaces

    She’s relative young, unless she had an undisclosed condition she will be fine. But it does show it can reach anyone, and imagine how many people she has contacted.

    Iranian President, senior officials in Brazil (that met with Trump), Trudeau's wife, Minister of Health in the UK. This is hitting the leadership hard.

    I found a few write ups where a couple of experts were willing to take a guess at what happens and they say the China info suggests this stuff will be like colds as far as transmission and the warmer more humid weather will slow transmission a lot from what it would do in the winter time.

    link?

    winter time transmission is higher because people are in closer proximity for longer periods of time. Disease doesn't care about temperature, it does change based on how close people are interacting.

    flu - 2 days
    norovirus = 4 weeks

    How long does coronavirus live on surfaces?
    The flu virus can stay active on some surfaces for up to 48 hours, according to the CDC.

    The Ebola virus can survive on doorknobs and countertops for several hours.

    The norovirus can survive up to four weeks on surfaces, said Charles Gerba, a professor of microbiology and immunology at The University of Arizona.

    For some diseases it kind of does depend on cold dry air. In warm wet air the droplets fall more quickly. That said it definitely also has to do with people clustered inside.

    or he will have minor symptoms like the majority of folks do, and claim that it proves it’s a hoax.
