The most informational efficient mechanism - the only mechanism that can can aggregate millions of pieces of private information & beliefs - the mkt, is telling us a lot! Individuals are pretty dumb from an information pt of view, the mkt is not. I believe the mkt

Because if these actions weren’t taken, the U.S death count wouldn’t be “only” 12,500 with this virus, it would be multiples higher. It may still be even with sporting events and large gatherings cancelled.

So it’s really not even appropriate to compare these actions to whatever Obama did or didn’t do. You need to wrap your head around the fact that this isn’t the same thing as a flu. This virus is many times worse and thus needs a proportionally higher response. We don’t even need to rely on Chinese propaganda anymore, we see it playing out in Italy and elsewhere. It isn’t just “theory” based on some simulation in a lab, it is happening, and these next few weeks are the key to how bad it may be.

Thanks for putting some perspective on this. Doesn't seem bleak at all now.

C'mon people: do you hear the man? Only a .4 reduction in humans.

This President was specifically told about the dangers of this situation and he and his lackeys mocked and silenced the CDC and failed to prepare our country. He even politicized the issue by saying people were over emphasizing it to attack him, as you are.
Disney closed, universities closed, the chancellor of Germany is warning that 1/2 here country could be struck and every educated scientist is giving warning. If anybody is still calling this serious situation political, they should pull off the tin foil hat and realize that they have head too far up Fox cave for too long. Major businesses are not losing billions to attack trump - they are worried and there is a reason. The science and health aspects of this situation is not political, but the failure to address it rationally should have political ramifications and one can only hope that those who agreed that Trump could stand on 5th avenue and shoot someone and should still be president will reconsider when his incompetence causes death to ones we love.

    Ok...and?

Link to Obama spreading misinformation on H1N1 in contradiction of his health professionals. Link to Obama firing the whole CDC pandemic response team.

You are so very wrong. Actually, it was already pointed out that you were wrong. Why are you purposely posting incorrect information?

Only 400 million people dead? Why is everyone persecuting Trump for mocking this issue. Many of them are not even Americans or are Americans on ships (and they don't count against our numbers).

Markets can be wrong, but don’t think that is the case here.

Also, NBA, NCAA, etc. don’t cancel extremely profitable events because CNN is biased (which it annoyingly is).

The only people that think 1,000s of for profit institutions are taking a heavy, self-inflicted, hit to the bottom line because of politics, have been brain washed by a politician.

Yes, as they should be. I’ve made no judgments on Trump’s handling including declaring public health emergencies. My issues with Trump relate to his attempts to minimize the severity of it for sake of the economy (and reelection) and what he had done long before the coronavirus that was baked into the system (like getting rid of the NSC position on infectious diseases and the associated support team that would have handled the response).

Trump isn’t responsible for any of the things you listed above and H1N1 wasn’t nearly as virulent. Obama also created a position and supporting team on the NSC to deal with pandemics which Trump abolished. If you think Trump has taken this seriously then why is it even this week that he was still pushing for cuts in the CDC’s budget for zoological diseases like the coronavirus?

I’ve no idea how you could determine if a real world mkt is wrong. Anyway, 1000s of laboratory mkts where the investigator knows the right ans, have proven to be crazy efficient. But we can have this debate another day

Again, we had less to worry with H1N1. People 60 and over likely already had immunity. And there was a vaccine ready in time. Sadly, the vaccine proved to be less effective than hoped, which did likely cause more deaths. With Corona, there is 0% historical immunity and no vaccine to be ready for months. Had the H1N1 vaccine been effective, it would have cut deaths by 25% or more. But we had no way of knowing effectiveness until it was too late.

With Corona, we had time to plan before outbreak and take it seriously. What was Trump's first response? It's a hoax, which is still being parroted by Trump sycophants like Hannity and Limbaugh today! No excuse for this behavior.

We could have had tests available for everyone weeks ago. Today, we still lack enough tests to give to everyone who should be tested. This is a failure and criticizing the Trump administration for this failure isn't political unless you see things in purely partisan ways.

Just an anecdotal story. I have a client who has a sister in law that is high up in Homeland security. He showed me a text he got from her earlier today. Said things are worse than being reported. That he should protect his family. Stock up on at least 2 months worth of food and cash. This will be way worse before it gets better.

Sports are canceled largely because of the optics as well as health concerns, IMO. If one kid catches Corona on the court and gives it to his grandmother who dies, all hell would break loose. NCAA would be up to their eyeballs in lawsuits.

YES!! I made my kids watch the video a couple months ago because they didn't get any jokes I made using those lyrics.

They still don't get the jokes, and now they think I'm even crazier than they did before. Flava Flav is an acquired taste. To keep this on-topic, they already have developed an immunity to early 90s rap :)
