H1Z1 was really bad but the media did not respond no where near this bad because all they care about is making Trump look bad. Now we have a disease.

Obama did take no where near the same actions Trump did and mostly because he didnt have to. Obama didnt have a media blowing this way up. H1Z1 had a larger age group that could die to it vs Covid-19.

Let's pretend this virus infects everyone on the planet (most of the worst viruses known to mankind infect about 30% during the initial Pandemic and then up to 60% over it's life) and the death rate is 5.5%, not the 3.4% being thrown around. Seems bleak doesn't it. If that were to happen, it takes the human population way way way way back to 2015. Not 1915, 2015. That's right folks. The general consensus is the current global population is 7.8B. With a 5.5% death rate, that takes us back down to 7.4B, or what the population was listed at a year before Trump came into office.

 

What exactly do you think is the media's fault in this? It made the CDC tell older people to stay home? It made Trump institute the travel ban?

H1Z1 spread very quick yet the media did not respond NO WHERE near like this. I lived it and remember it very much so. Show me where major sporting events SUSPEND seasons??

 

I honestly think that we are taking the actions that we should have in 2009 with H1Z1.

First of all what in the world is H1Z1? Second, if you're talking about H1N1 then the mortality rate was 0.01-0.08%. There was no reason for events to be closed when there was no chance of an insane death count. From what we currently know the best case scenario (South Korea) is 0.6% (6x more deadly than the flu) and at worst over 3%. Of course there should be more of a reaction from this virus. Also this new virus is more contagious than H1N1 was.

On April 26, 2009, before even a single US death the executive branch issued a public health emergency before even a single US death (only 20 cases at that point) and six weeks before the WHO designated H1N1 a pandemic. They also requested more than $7B of funding to combat it on April 28th, 2009.

H1N1, or swine flu, was different in that the older population was likely already immune. Since they are generally the most vulnerable population, it meant the death rate was likely to be lower. In addition, there was a vaccine available at the time H1N1 hit. Unfortunately, the vaccine did not prove to be as effective as hoped, but if there were a vaccine available for Corona, it would change the conversation today. But a Corona vaccine is months away, at best.

These details and difference are important, and why the Corona response has to be different, and has been different.

That many could still definitely perish from this virus. My point is Trump has already executed way more than Obama did. End of the day we are simple humans who think we can control terrible viruses and than blame others for political gains.

 

Media reported facts that made trump look like an idiot.

Yep, but notice who issued it. It wasn't Obama, it was the Secretary of Health and Human Services. That's what is suppose to happen, but it seems everyone is expecting Trump to do everything. It reminds me of the old EF Hutton commercials. Why is everyone looking at Trump when really it is supposed to be the people who are put in charge to deal with this. The only official declaration Obama made was the the national emergency on Oct 23, 2009. All 3 or 4 of the public emergencies were handled by health officials.
