This is false and has been debunked in one of the 50 or so other COVID-19 threads.

Warning people is waiting to be right? Sorry but I don't think we are going to agree at all. I really really hope this is all nonsense. I have quite a few elderly family members.

Unfortunately after digging it's not false. The Secretary declared a public health emergency on April 26th 2009. Obama declared a national emergency in October 2009.

So what? The public health emergency was declared earlier.

Well I don’t know where BLING lives so I don’t know if we would go there or he would come to Orlando.

Where do you live? We could head your way. And you could join us.

Oh I'm not taking a side just saying the wording is correct. A lot of people imply that this points to him not taking it seriously (which I don't agree with).

I don't see that. I believe any epidemiologist worth his/her salt would say something similar. New infectious diseases are inevitable for as long as there is life on earth and preparing as best as possible for this possibility is critical. I posted this a month ago on one of the original covid 19 threads, but if you want some understanding about the mindset behind this thinking, you should read Plagues and Peoples by William McNeil (it's from the 1970s) and more recently, Spillover by David Quammen. Or you can listen to his NPR interview here.

I know too many people including a parent who feeds on Fox day & night. I spent an hour last night having to convince this parent to take precautions bc parent is 80 and has underlying medical conditions. It took so long for parent to relent because parent continued to refer to fox and how this was all media hype and that parent "wasn't going to lose sleep over it"

Saddens me in such a deep way to see a bright, loving parent be so taken in by fox propaganda and that I had to guilt parent like parent was a child to do the right thing.

Fox hosts bask in defiance of reasoned thought and have convinced viewers to share in that basking, because liberals. It is shameful but it also saddens me to see it up close.

    You're just overconfident :)

While the dunning-kruger effect can apply to anyone, I think the main thrust of the effect is about those who score particularly low on various measures of cognitive ability yet very high on belief in their own abilities/knowledge, which would make it different than a mere overconfidence bias found among experts and others with high cognitive abilities.

I don't think it has be debunked.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama has upped the ante in the battle to control the H1N1 flu by declaring it a national emergency, the second such declaration since the flu first emerged last spring.

At a press briefing yesterday, CDC director Thomas Frieden, MD, said that H1N1 has thus far claimed more than 1,000 American lives, a death toll that includes about 100 children. Moreover, 46 states are reporting widespead flu activity.
