Based on what? It sounds like the threat was: if you don't, you will be issued a formal quarantine. What's the penalty for violating an informal quarantine?

Once every 2 years the French language students at my granddaughter's high school are offered the opportunity to travel to Paris for 2 weeks. My granddaughter and 9 other girls signed on at the end of the 2019 school year. It gave all of them ample time needed to earn or accumulate the $3300 cost of the trip. She and the other girls babysat and worked summer jobs to pay for their trips. The final payment was made in December and the girls and their chaperones were ready to go. Their plan was to fly to New York from Salt Lake tomorrow, then on to Paris.

At a pre-scheduled final meeting this afternoon after school, the faculty sponsor for the trip announced the school district had cancelled the trip due to concerns over the virus. He also announced the money each girl paid will not be refunded. They are crushed - and angry. The fees for the trip were pre-paid into a fund managed by the district, which has now said it can't afford to refund any of the costs to the disappointed students or their parents. My son was at the meeting and he thinks they can get about half back but I don't know how he plans to do this.

All concerned recognize the reasons for the cancellation, but it doesn't mitigate their disappointment in missing out on this greatly anticipated trip to Paris.

My daughter in Austin said schools there have also similarly cancelled school sponsored European trips.

If they have their flights and hotels couldn’t they travel anyway?

Apparently not. It was sponsored by the school district that has issued an edict prohibiting school sponsored travel until further notice. That's all I know at this time.

This morning I learned a middle school's 8th grade class here in the same district has had their school's annual trip to Washington cancelled, too.

I still can't understand where they say the money went. Sounds fishy to me.

I agree to some extent and only related what I have been told by my son. The district had prepaid all the fees so the money is spent. The district said it doesn't have money to refund all the people who were going on the trips, the district can't afford to make refunds. THAT - I believe. There is a history of financial irresponsibility, and possible malfeasance in the county.

Yes, but would they be executed first, and then cremated, or cremated first, and then executed?

    Too late I'm sure.

British Health Secretary tests positive. Went to function at PM house 2 days prior

I’d sue. The school district should have insured the trip. Even without insurance, late cancellations get some refund. Fishy indeed.

I think sinking all cruise ships would be good for the country. Let's use our military for something good. Let's put Carnival and Royal Caribbean down for the count.

If it helps control the virus so much the better.

How long until China bans all travel coming from other countries? If the situation weren’t serious the irony would be delicious.

No!! Then all "those" vacationers are more likely to invade "our" vacations.

It's like Los Angeles: I'm so glad it exists, otherwise all those people would be amongst "us".;):D

13 US men ages 45 - 82 went skiing in Alps. All healthy.

All 13 got infected, 4 hospitalized, 3 in ICU on ventilators. Oldest had least problems.

    Source...doctor of patients on CNN.

They still don't know how/why this impacts different people
