Don't have any idea on the testing procedures, but at some point they have to do human trials? But aren't vaccines are preventative though and not cures for existing cases?
Eventually they'll do human trials. But even before that likely animal testing and lab tests of various types. Yes, preventative, not a cure. I imagine there are many testing anti-virals for treatment purposes.
Some more facts that you haven't considered: 1. We don't have any way to contain the virus because it is new and authorities don't have a full grasp of it yet 2. We don't have any anti-viral for it yet 3. We don't have a vaccine for it it yet 4. The virus has been found to spread easily 5. It has been found to spread by people before they've become are symptomatic 6. Initial studies find the virus has lasted on surfaces up to 9 days. Think about these things for a moment. The alarm is over the inability to control it and that inability to control it means people will die because others who don't but get sick will pass it on to them. I really wish you'd step back and consider how ranting about it being hysteria is a misguided reaction to an acute public health issue.
Harvard EDU/WHO had stated several hours to several days on hard surfaces. This was a concern for my company as we import from china.
Rightly so. Combine that with bad habits--humans touching the "T-zone" of their faces (eyes, nose, mouth/chin) and one can start to appreciate just how easy it would be for someone to contact the virus from a surface in which the person who deposited it there did so days before.
It's also quite deadly with people who are older or may suffer from some sort of immune issue. I'm absolutely terrified, now that we have a case in Louisiana. It's even worse that the person lives and works quite close to where we live. My wife has two serious primary immune disorders. Not only can her body not produce sufficient antibodies during infection, but doesn't properly produce IgG antibodies on a normal basis. Our immunologist told us previously that she's highly susceptible to respiratory diseases. Thankfully, I have an option to telework. Plenty of my coworkers seem to enjoy coming to work ill. It's infuriating.
Nice to see the admin taking some steps. I hope trump will actually listen and not take the stance that he knows more than everyone, combined. White House invites Wall Street executives for meeting amid coronavirus worries
Coronavirus in the US: Map, case counts and news | Live Science But the map is already out of date. As PetrolGator said, it's been confirmed in Louisiana
I'm worried about my in-laws in Sicily. FIL had a heart attack a year ago, her grandpa is mid 90's and health isn't the greatest, Grandma is in her mid 80s and the same. And the problem with Italy is the southern Italians that lived up north all fled to the south. I know first hand how terrible the hospitals are there and they are in no way capable of dealing with this at all.
Apparently, the 15th test run by my state (we are all the way up to 15 now from 8 earlier today) popped a presumptive positive. Hard to think that there won't be a Mardi Gras cluster given the timing. Of course, if we don't test, I guess we can avoid finding it!
Cruz was at CPAC convention with infected person and then with Trump days later. Now self quarantined Ted Cruz and Paul Gosar will self-quarantine after interacting with individual with coronavirus at CPAC - CNNPolitics Congress' Office of Attending Physician said the attendee had contact with "several" members of Congress during the conference. The office said these members -- who were not identified -- have chosen to self-quarantine for 14 days. It is not known how many other members also interacted with the person. The patient identified the members he interacted with, and the physician's office said they were notified on Saturday night, according to a note the office sent to congressional members' staffs and obtained by CNN.
The coronavirus may and probably will save more American lives than it takes. We all know flu kills, many die of the common cold, how about all the other viruses and bacteria that kill thousands of Americans every year.......Now think about all the extra time being spent on hygiene and cleaning. What do ya think?
I am not worrying about this personally but the coronavirus is definitely showing itself to be more deadly to older unhealthy people compared to the standard flu but it seems to be hardly any danger to the young like the flu can be.
It is possible that this could be a "heads up" about many communicable diseases (like clap ) and a chance to exploit markets like soap, hand sanitizers and condoms. Be careful out there.
I think the fear of the corona virus is reaching silly levels. Asthma is believed to be caused by not exposing kids to enough unclean environments. My prediction is that asthma rates are going to skyrocket.
I can't imagine what is going through those mothers' heads right now - the ones that drag their kid to the emergency room at the first sign of a runny nose.
My brother's family does this. They are the biggest wasters of medical resources that I am aware of, hypochondriacs and malingerers to the core. My issue with socialized medicine is I think that people like my brother would use up all the resources. Maybe the corona virus can keep my brother and his ilk out of the er and get them to stop wasting health care. So maybe there is a silver lining, but I doubt it.
Add Gaetz to the list. For all the talk by folks on the right about this not being a problem, why are their leaders self-quarantining?
