But I think the mortalities are well characterized. If there are far more cases out there than we know about that do not result in deaths, we are inflating the mortality rate.

By the way, the mortality rate as of 2/28 without the Wuhan population, but the rest of China included is 0.7% -1% as reported by the WHO in conjunction with the China equivalent of the CDC. That would be about 7-10x worse than the flu for sure.

All I "know" so far, is we know far less than the TV Reporters want to acknowledge. It is a better headline to report the Wuhan number at 3.2%. That is much scarier and makes for better headlines

No I meant his spin/interpretation of the article. I doubt it was his own.

On the other hand, Obama never referred to the H1N1 virus as a hoax.

Folks is it possible we could keep politics out of this thread? These diseases know no political affiliations.

You're not making the point you think you are if you look it up and think about it

I have an open question. I have not been glued to the tv or computer about this coronavirus. Has any otherwise healthy adult or child that was being treated died from the corona virus?

Mike Bloomberg buys 3-minute primetime ad on CBS, NBC to address coronavirus outbreak

White House hopeful Mike Bloomberg bought three minutes of network TV time to deliver remarks about the coronavirus outbreak Sunday night as he tries to contrast his leadership style from President Donald Trump's.

The former New York mayor's campaign will run a three-minute taped address on CBS and NBC at about 8:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, it said Saturday. The purchase from the billionaire businessman, who has already spent more than $500 million on his campaign, shows the reach his wealth gives him as 2020 Democratic candidates criticize the president's response to the global crisis.

Haven’t heard anything so that means nobody has died that fit in that category or that fact doesn’t fit the media agenda

Probably much the same way China has been screening people in and around Wuhan. Latest estimates from the WHO daily update indicate fewer than 50% of the "confirmed" Covid-19 cases have been validated by internationally accepted testing methods. Many others are being quarantined based off of symptoms and chest x-ray. The sheer number of illnesses overwhelmed the local Chinese authorities so they were doing the best job that they could.

I suspect in the US, hospitals have been alerted to the symptoms, may even be performing more chest x-rays than normal during our Flu season in an effort to triage folks, ie do the best that they can to "screen for Covid-19"???? Just guessing though....as I said earlier, I know nothing and do not pretend otherwise.

I can see there are certain factions of this society trying to destroy this country. It’s not Trump or his supporters.

Trump is a compulsively lying cancer who is actively trying to divide this country with each sophomoric tweet he makes.

Perhaps, but this is why there is such alarm. With the flu, we have have considerable knowledge about transmission and deaths. We're not there yet with this corona virus.

With no immunity and easy community transmission it isnt unreasonable to think that the great majority of the population will be infected. If 1% of the population dies that is 3.7 million in the US.

I can only imagine that the mortality rate will be much higher in less advanced parts of the world
