Started some kimchi today with leftover napa cabbage and diakon radish. I even had the correct Korean red pepper flakes/powder from making Korean ribs. You either think that kimchi smells great or smells like a sewer. I like it. Now it needs to sit out for about 5 days fermenting.

Opening Day! Time for some unhealthy ballpark food.

The house has been full of the smells of a pot of spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove since mid-morning—

A fresh Romaine classic salad topped with vine ripe tomatoes and French bread will be the sides—We’ve got a nice bottle of Italian Cav to go with—

It’s great to be kicking off another season with everyone. Life is good in Gator Nation!

Could not cook today. I had to go to the Gator baseball game and then the Gator basketball game. @WESGATORS can attest that my season basketball tickets rock, but are not as good as my baseball seat. Much of the rest of the day was spent dimensioning the best pine I could find for making some screen doors. I was hoping to find some Douglas fir but didn't. I settled for some tighter than normal grain southern yellow pine. Making screen doors out of 3/4 inch wide wood does not work. 1" wood does.

My wife woked a huge batch of Chinese vegetables earlier so I had some decent grub after the basketball game. I ate the worst ever nachos between the baseball and basketball games. I will never make that mistake again.

Tomorrow I will be cutting tenons and mortises for making the door in the morning before taking the pilgrimage to the Mac for a one o'clock game. Maybe I can cook something after the game.

Not to get off topic here, but sometime I avoid asking Lurker about the pitches just because I'm just fine with the opinion I have formed of the umpire without letting the facts get in the way. They truly are great seats, BUT, the basketball seats are not far behind. Saw you get some indoor-TV time with the "oblivious cam" neighbor you had in your section. Willing to give you a pass for 1H FT defense tonight because, there were at least a couple of other factors working in the good guys' favor tonight!

Who was that guy they brought on the court at halftime, seemed to draw some applause.

    Go GATORS!

Late getting it on here but tonight I’ve got 1”thick boneless center cut pork chops seasoned with coarse black pepper and Everglades seasoning to grill indirect over cherry wood smoke—

Inside Ms. Jan is making rice topped with Rotel tomatoes and fresh steamed green cabbage—

The Italian Cav really appeals to Ms. Jan soooo that will accompany the meal.

I caught a shirt and gave it to Mrs Oblivious. I first checked it out to see if it was a special shirt because of that half-time guy whoever he was, but it wasn't. I think that I have caught 6 shirts so far this season and one game I caught two. I tell my wife that The Dazzlers like me, LOL. I kept one and gave the rest away.

The Friday night blue had a HUGE strike zone, but was consistent. The Saturday blue had a bigger than normal strike zone and was consistent. I didn't get to see the Sunday blue because we had a niece in town visiting and I had already spent a lot of away time and I thought it was going to rain.

Last night I roasted pork tenderloin in a sesame teriyaki sauce and my wife cooked the Chinese greens she didn't cook earlier in her wok.

Tonight it will be take-out after attending the basketball game. I am guessing El Indio or Dick Mondell's.

Our nephew that’s retired 27 years with the Navy is coming through this evening and it always needs to be kinda special when he’s here, so—

W/D had beef tenderloins on sale (buying the whole loin) @ $10.99 lb. Their regular price is $17.99 lb—Yep, I had them cut the whole thing up into Filet mignons—

Tonight we’re grilling Filets and baked potatoes. To go with will be a fresh Caesar salad and Ms. Jan’s new found friend this Italian Cav—

Gators are on the big screen TV on the back pork while the grilling’s going on. Life is good in Gator Nation!

Ate crappy food at the baseball game last night. Tonight I am making sauteed rapini with grilled sweet Italian sausage.

The Gator basketball team BBQed some pork on Tuesday night. It left a good taste in my mouth.

Speaking of pork, Publix had pork shoulder/Boston butt on sale so I picked up a seven pounder to cook this weekend. Now I have to decide between pulled pork and carnitas. Both are yummy.

Tonight we are cooking inside as it’s been rainy to stormy here all day and evening—

The call tonight is fresh fried catfish fillets, cheese grits, homemade coleslaw, sweet pickles, and hush puppies—

An ice cold Mich Ultra sets awfully good today too—:)

Escarole soup with leftover pork roast, garlic, oregano, and orzo tonight.

Setting the alarm for tomorrow at 6 AM because a 7 lb pork shoulder takes forever to smoke: at least 10.5 hours before a one hour rest. I will prep the KJ today so all it will need is to be lit. I would have liked the piece of meat to be out of the fridge longer than it will take to get the KJ up to operating temperature and settled, but I just ain't getting up any earlier.

The newest addition to the household (a two year old miniature Australian shepherd) will keep me company. A friend of my youngest son asked us to take care of her. He got left with it when a house full of roommates broke up and he can't give her the attention she needs. I walk her 6 to 7 miles every day (once in the morning and once in the late afternoon) and she is still a little ball of energy. Very cute dog and smart as a whip. I keep telling my youngest that he should walk her because she is a chick magnet and I am happily married and too old for many of the ladies that admire her.

Change in dinner plans. Got a call from my wife that steaks were on sale at Hitchcock's in Alachua and that I need to get the KJ ready. This will both delay and shorten my afternoon dog walk.

And that makes prepping the KJ tonight for tomorrow probably not in the cards. Set the alarm for 5:30?

Probably so— what time are you planning on eating and you said 10.5 hrs cooking time, right?

It’s been blustery here all day, low-mid 40’s with 20+ mph winds out of the north—

Tonight’s opening game ballpark fare is going to be Taco Bean Soup made with chicken—tortilla chips, sour cream, shredded Tex-Mex cheese, and cut up jalapeños to taste are the toppings—

An ice cold Mich Ultra or two will be well received—Life is good in Gator Nation!

I like to eat dinner about 7 so even getting up at 6 AM is really not early enough.

Last week for the Sunday game, the kids played in the yard and the wife and I ate crawfish and drank beer.

This Sunday matinee I am going to try to boil my own crawfish. Likely will be a disaster but I am super excited to try it!!! Will let you know the result.

    Greg—

They are great, we love’ each. We catch them right here out of Merritts Mill Pond. Spring fed pond that almost purges them for you—very little work and a great meal—
