Alonso went yard today. 3-4 so far including the 3-run bomb. Only 384’ so he might need to do some pushups tonight as he appears to be losing strength.

It is still very early but to put it into perspective how well Alonso has done so far, only 6 rookies have ever hit more than 120 RBIs in a season. The list includes Ted Williams who hit 145 in 1939 (he holds the record), Albert Pujols who hit 130 in 2001 and Joe DiMaggio who hit 125.

Alonso with 24 RBIs so far through 26 games (pending the last two innings tonight), is on pace for 145.6 RBIs and 56 HRs. Obviously expecting that to continue is naive but the dude is en fuego right now.

You’ve seen the replays of players running in to him at 1st base—and just bouncing off—:ninja3:

I don't want to make too much of the triple, I'll just say that Ty Cobb, Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby, Stan Musial, and Babe Ruth never hit a triple in their first season.

Really?? no Ty Cobb triples his first year. I would of lost that guess/bet. Legit scorekeepers in those times though I guess.

Thanks for posting, sad story but uplifting at the same time, I hope others will read it.

Just a quote that stood out to me:

"Since the accident, Brandon’s relationship with his younger brother — he is 5 years older than Brady — has evolved into something therapeutic, complete with healing unique to them. Immediately after the accident, Brady flew in from Arizona and spent hours in the hospital holding his brother’s hand and challenging him to keep up with breathing treatments designed to lessen the possibly of pneumonia setting in.

Once Brandon was discharged and returned home to continue his rehabilitation, Brady has been right by his proverbial side.

“I talk to him every day on the telephone,” said Brady, a starting pitcher for the Wilmington (Delaware) Blue Rocks, Kansas City’s Carolina League affiliate. “We’ve just always been there for each other and I feel like he needs me more than ever right now. Brandon would do the same thing for me if the roles were reversed. I just want to see him get better."

says a lot about the Singer family

“We’ve always tried to push each other to do our best and that’s what I’m doing now.”

Alonso so far is 1-2 against Disco. He singled in the bottom of the 1st and then flied out. Disco has given up 0 R through 3.

Nobody pays attention to BA when you're raking triples a couple of times a month. Elite company, going into today, fewer than 25 MLB players have multiple triples. Some people watch for the longball, but the triple is where it's at.

Disco ended up going 5 and 2/3rds with 3 hits allowed and 8 Ks. 0 runs allowed.

Didn’t get the victory however as the Reds didn’t win until a solo shot in the 9th.

His ERA on the season is now 3.48.
