I suggest the FBI investigates Ford for lying under oath...

She should actually support such an investigation if she's innocent to clear her name, don't you agree? ;)

We don't know that. At any rate, I'm comfortable with the characterization of the man as an abusive predator. And my point regarding better candidates also stands.

At the outset of the letter, Ford requested confidentiality until she had a chance to speak with Feinstein first, and signed it *in confidence.* Knowing this, I am not quite understanding why the right thing to do would have been to immediately tell Grassley?

Whatever the case, the one who inflicted the most--and what I believe lasting--damage on BK's reputation was BK himself.

...for reasons I've written to many times already...no need to rehash.

Agree, no way for him to prove his innocence or her to provide evidence from 38 year ago, especially since the two eyewitnesses are the alleged offenders. Thus, we are all left to judge her account based on her sworn testimony, how she conveyed it, and to an extent how she went about coming forward in the first place. I would think that someone lying about being victimized wouldn't have gone to a therapist about it, wouldn't ask for confidence, wouldn't have waited so long to come forward, and would under questioning appear less credible, say like Julie Swetnick. She did the opposite and still hasn't spoken out in a way that sought to condemn BK, or hang em for his alleged crimes.

By the way, I am baffled by how resistant many Americans are toward being sincere, contrite, and apologetic for harms one might have done (especially while a drunk teenager thirty-six years ago). It's like a foreign concept to them and it showed.

I'm amazed about your second statement as well. I didn't grow up in a barn, but I wasn't born in ancient Rome and I wasn't BFF with Caligula. However during the early '80's the culture among us in our early 20's was to party like you mean it. Some more that others, of course. But enough that Brett & The Fellas wouldn't necessarily be considered completely off the charts. Extreme, yes, but that was kind of the overriding theme of the day. No need whatsoever to lie about it, especially in the forum that Brett did.

The woman lied, plain and simple. If you've seen a picture of her at 15 yrs old, you can honestly say no one, but no one, could have sexual intentions for her. Her unsubstantiated accusations are a total hack job paid for by the socialists democrats.

That picture isn't of her. It's disgusting and insulting misinformation. Imagine being the woman whose picture that actually is.

Yeah, but I bet you were first in line at the video store to rent the Guccione produced Caligula film when it came out on betamax :D

Hell dude, what I will write next is not to brag or exaggerate, but I am certain that my own college experience was far more debased with alcohol, drugs, and sex, and just out of control excesses than his, so I have much sympathy regarding the impulse to play it down, lie and/or deny.

It's also a reason why I believe he's full of it.

It wasn't only "the times" so to speak (i.e. 1980s), but simply that age range is incredibly prone to excess and bad behaviors etc...

I can't prove it, but I suspect his lying and questionable characterization of his past comes from two related things: 1) his never having had to answer for those excesses before, thus an inability to do so honestly when it confronted him and 2) his already having cultivated a public image and long a narrative of self--as anyone who is in the public eye has done--and all of do to an extent, raised the stakes and made #1 much harder.

I often ponder the machinations at play in the minds of those that so easily latch onto conspiracy theories. Sometimes I think of it as an intentional divorcing of oneself from reality, like a good novel. It’s too bad it is frequently occasioned with malicious attacks and an inability to empathize.

Hell, my college years were pretty tame relative to a lot of people I know, but I still can't sit here and tell you I never committed any crimes or drank to the point of not remembering moments from the previous night (I've never fully blacked out, though). I certainly wouldn't have felt some type of way towards the guy if he admitted he partied a lot and didn't treat women as well as he should have. He could have done that and denied the sexual assault. He wouldn't have put himself in a position where he had to be dishonest. He got his SCOTUS seat, so I guess he feels justified, but I don't think this is the end of that saga.

In all honesty, though... I'm glad this is over for both Dr. Ford and Justice Kavanaugh... for them and their families... Nobody should have to endure what both of these people did over the last two weeks...

I really believe all rape/sexual assault investigations should be held privately... To protect all involved from this sort of madness.

I'm not sure why people would be mad at Avenatti. He made no difference whatsoever. Susan Collins citing him in her speech is the definition of intellectual dishonesty. Remember that Collins said this:
Sen. Collins calls for FBI to investigate 3rd woman’s accusation in broader Kavanaugh probe

And the FBI never investigated those claims. Accordingly, the idea that Avenatti is the reason why Collins voted for Kavanaugh is just a red herring put out there by Collins to deflect blame. She was always in Kavanaugh's corner, and her speech made that quite clear.

Don't get it twisted. I said from the beginning that I didn't trust Avenatti. However, I also am not naive enough to believe he's at fault for what went down. He's just an easy scapegoat.

Yeh. This “creepy”, “rapist” pablum is just leftie talking point nonsense. It’s likely that sometime this week, the leftie minions will begin to spout the latest directive from their leaders ..... that Kavanaugh is a white supremacist.

The internet wasn't around but the word was in common usage for anal sex at the time.

The Valley Girls song from the early 80s uses it in that context.
