And I agreed that everything they did was in response to the other. I wanted that to stop. I still want it to stop. But how can you see what is happening right now as anything other than a travesty? If a Democratic nominee is credibly accused of sexual assault, I will join in with the Republicans in calling for an investigation (or calling for the nominee to be rescinded). You can bet on that. SCOTUS is for life. There is no taking it back (outside of impeachment, which is extremely improbable). It's the one institution in this country that still has some credibility. Putting Kavanaugh on it discredits it for me.
Yet its QUITE telling tbat she didnt remember ANYTHING of the sort. She didnt even offer a vague recollection of anything resembling it. Norhing along the lines of 'yeah, i remember one night where she seemed visibly shaken...". Norhing. Zero corroboration about something doc ford could scarcely place in right part of a decade....
I certainly haven’t him called Kavanaugh that, and absolutely think that we shouldn’t. However, given the what we know today, graduating from Yale and being successful should not at all be evidence that someone couldn’t have committed assault. In some ways successful people might be more likely to be able to pull this off, and unfortunately bad things do happen, even at Yale. Survey shows “disturbing” rates of sexual misconduct
McConnell warned Reid at the time, if the D's went nuclear on Federal Judges, R's reserved the right to do it for the SCOTUS. You cannot launch a nuclear attack and not expect a counter strike. Durbin mentioned on a show that it might be time to call a truce and re-instate the filibuster for both.

This is not a matter of "lawyer BS". It's a matter of understanding what words mean. If I say I don't remember "X" it means I don't remember "X". It doesn't mean "X" didn't happen. It's that simple.
My opinion for the best way to move forward: 1. Rescind Kavanaugh, nominate Amy Barrett, vet her, and skip the Committee (since she already had a Committee vote). Vote her in. 2. Reinstate the filibuster for judges. Stop with the partisan politics over judges. If they're qualified (and don't have baggage like Kavanaugh), vote them through. Enough of this. Things are broken right now. We need to fix them.
One really has nothing to do with the other, plenty of time for drinking/partying on weekends and certain nights, and still be able to do just fine during the day. It was practically a requirement if you were a Greek at UF, and i'm sure it's the same at any college. Other than the 3rd woman, there are no allegations of any "serial rape" going on or that Kavenaugh himself is a "serial rapist" - and even that isn't a direct allegation. But indeed she is describing something that DEFINITELY goes on at frats around the country (men taking advantage of intoxicated women, or even drugging them for the purposes of rape). Yet, that actually was NOT a topic of the hearing - which was about Ford. Just one of many reasons the Graham rant was an embarrassment, after his rant his only question to Kavanaugh: "are you a serial rapist". No? Ok, so I guess this hearing was a sham and Ford must be a liar too. Is that what he was going for?
Yep. Nobody has explained why the same people demanding an investigation (Feinstein) didn't demand an investigation when she was already advising Ford on whom to retain for legal services.
Absolutely. Because that would have been the truth. Unlike the claim he repeatedly made to successfully create a public misunderstanding of the witness' statements... a misunderstanding which has been repeated over and over again in this very thread.
Re investigation.... talk to Sen Feinstein and find out why she sat on a he letter. Then, talk to Ford and find out the truth as to why she couldn’t recall the specifics of some event .......... that never happened. Further more, WTH didn’t Ford’s lawyers have their investigators checking this out beginning in early August, almost 8 weeks ago. If as some say an investigation would only take a few days, Ford’s team had plenty of time to perform multiple thorough investigations. Maybe they did and found nothing more than her “story”.
Completely agree. The Dems intentionally held this back to try to delay the confirmation process. No doubt.
Two wrongs don't make a right. The difference between us is that I have criticized Feinstein for what she did. Have you criticized Kavanaugh for refusing to request an investigation?
And so we should listen to them when they pound the table demanding a delay and investigation, when you readily admit they sat on an allegation of sexual assault? And the GOP are the bad guys for not playing the game?
I don’t mind wars based on philosophy. If you believe strongly in your stance in abortion, you should fight for it...through the proper channels as outlined by our laws. I don’t condone wars based on party affiliation. I don’t like the idea of retaliation against a group who may not even be the same people who threw the first stone, and especially when doing what’s right for the nation is sacrificed. I certain don’t want Kavanaugh acting like this! I see your argument that the republicans did just that this week, but on the other hand, some people whose analysis that i respect, like Flake and @GatorBen, have determined that this wasn’t an improper course of action. I probably would have voted no today, but barely, like 52%-48% barely. And mostly because I object to rushing, but I understand the rushing. So I don’t hate voting yes here. However, I do hate calling this a political con job. Hearing Ford our was absolutely proper, in my opinion.
What he said (albeit clumsily) was that the Dems want everyone to believe that Kav was 'Bill Cosby' (i.e. a serial rapist) in the early 80's, then suddenly outgrew it, and lived incident free for the next 3+ decades. Course you knew that, but thanks for the oppy/cue to reiterate a fairly compelling point.
I really don’t think we need to blaming the victim here. Feinstein likely should have done better, but even here, let’s not act like she’s the only one.
