Nate, I don't think it should preclude you from SCOTUS (unless you attempted to rape somebody). Partying shouldn't stop that. However, that assumes that you're honest about it. The problem with Kavanaugh is that he lied over and over again. If he had come out and said, "Yes, I used to drink a lot. I was a kid. I am past it. However, I never sexually assaulted anyone", I wouldn't consider it an issue. The problem is that he decided to deny it.
I think boof had a meaning, at least to some, in the early 1980s other than the one Kavanaugh ascribed to it, but I’m pretty confident it didn’t mean butt chugging at that time. In large part because I don’t think butt chugging was even a thing until about two and a half decades later.

It may have been false bravado or whatever, but they were certainly making references to some hard partying. What he claimed in his testimony was that these yearbook messages meant "did you fart yet". Do you honestly think that is credible or makes even the slightest bit of sense? There were clear sexual innuendos and party innuendos, but they wrote to each other "did you fart yet" in their yearbook??? and you buy that explanation?

Nothing will change the minds of the Trump sycophants, but Kavanaugh losing the support of Dershowitz and the ABA until a full investigation is completed is significant. It may sway the minds of a few swing Senators who would vote no unless there is an investigation. Would put the Rs in a tough spot.
He claimed he never got so drunk that he couldn't remember what happened. When pressed on that by the Senators, he got indignant, belligerent, and insulting. However, if you watched his Fox News interview, he definitely tried to play down his partying in HS and distance himself from it. He was not being straightforward about it.
I don't get what a "full investigation" would entail. It seems we have all the evidence we're ever going to get and it amounts to pretty much nothing other than the accuser's testimony. No amount of "investigation" would sway those who believe the mere allegation is cause for withdrawal of the nomination.
I have a hard time blaming him for getting testy with senators that are obviously just trying to bait him into giving a bad answer after having his name dragged through the mud by the news media. That said, I'd prefer a nominee for SCOTUS to keep calm in that situation. Overall not great, but it doesn't rise to the level of disqualifying for me.
At minimum, I'd like to see Mark Judge get put under oath and interrogated (sorry, I mean interviewed).(and talk to his ex-GF) But there's a lot more that could be done. Likely won't turn up anything damning, but you never know. It's not like we're crunched for time. At minimum, it's something they could say they did. Although, at this point, I think Kavanaugh needs to go. The way he acted during that hearing made it clear to me that he has no business being on SCOTUS. He dropped all pretenses of being impartial and went into full partisan hackery mode. It's embarrassing that a guy who is currently a federal judge would do that. It would be even more embarrassing to promote him after doing that. When I clerked for a judge, as a law clerk, I was not allowed to state political opinions publicly. That was because what I said could be attributed to the judge, and judges are supposed to be impartial and non-partisan. Brett Kavanaugh launching into attacks on "the left," accusing the Clintons of bringing about the allegations as a revenge, and threatening political retaliation for what he went through are as far from judicial behavior as you can get. It exposed him as a partisan operative. As I told @GatorBen previously, that was a concern I had about Kavanaugh even before the allegations. Give me Amy Coney Barrett or Thomas Hardiman. Ram them through before the mid-term elections (as long as they're properly vetted). Push them through during the lame-duck session (if the Republicans somehow lose the Senate). But do not put a man who lacks integrity onto the highest court in our country for life. It's not about Kavanaugh being a conservative. It's about the man's character, or lack thereof imo. Some would call me naive for still having faith in our government. Some would call me naive for still believing in SCOTUS and the judiciary as an institution. But I do. If Kavanaugh is promoted to SCOTUS after all of this, it will erode away my faith in the institution. It will send a clear message that the Court is a partisan institution, and we aren't even going to try and keep appearances up. In my eyes, it will discredit the Court.
I don't want a Supreme Court justice who has a few beers before listening to a case. He has testified under oath that beer can make him fall asleep.
I have written that I didn't think his teen antics disqualified him either, but his response to it now definitely does. His anger and his problem with the truth make him unfit for SCOTUS, but it also imo makes him unfit for his current appointment, not that much can be done without further investigation.
And you know this how? That's right you don't. Indignant, belligerent, and insulting -I think you and everybody else would have showed the same anger. Belligerent ,he was in a war. Insulting, completely disagree with. That word describes the senators on the left
