We have no idea who they contacted in these background checks.

Would be interesting to note if they ever contacted Ford and what her responses were. But they likely had no way of knowing an association between them. Or any other private school girls. Right?

Even at college... how would they know which women showed up at frat parties or wherever they were partying?

    You are confused.

The comments I made were only in reference to someone saying drunken behaviour should have raised a red flag when the background check was done by the FBI.

My comments had zero to do with the allegations made just recently which were not part of the original background investigation.

No, I don't think I'm superior to you. I don't think in terms of superior or inferior; I think in terms of different, of which we all are.

Since you asked, I think your opinions are highly partisan and sorely misinformed. I feel sorry for the amount of anger you seem to hold, as exhibited with your postings fervently attacking people. Mostly I am sad for what you have most assuredly gone through that has developed you into a person whose posts drip with animosity. Mostly I wish I could go back and help you with whatever it was you went through to develop that anger.

But I am a snowflake so, feelings, lol.

Adopted Gator. Graduated USF in 83. Spent a lot of football weekends at UF in early 80s to 87 while my brother was there.

My mother is a rape survivor, alcoholic, drug abuser, who spent her entire life in and out of jail. My father was never a part of my life; nor did he attempt to be.

Wrt your allegation that I am a child; I am very much an adult and do not require the counsel of either of my parents. Try again? :)

    Right.

    Nevertheless.....however their methods.....he passed.

My only point was drunken behavior is normal in high school/college for many and shouldn't be a disqualifier.

    That's all I'm saying.

Assuming she is being truthful, I agree with all of this. A lot of women never find the courage. But they really need to and this ordeal is not helpful, IMHO. And if we're going to hear "civic duty", well, the "civic duty" would have been to report this when it could be properly investigated and criminally prosecuted (effectively).

    Civil Lawsuits for Sexual Abuse
In a civil lawsuit, a victim of sexual abuse demands compensation and damages from his or her abuser. You may be entitled to economic and non-economic damages, including compensation for your pain and suffering.

In Maryland, a civil sexual abuse case must be filed within:

    • In childhood sexual abuse cases, seven years from the victim’s 18th birthday, and
    • Three years from the event for adult cases.
If sexual abuse occurs at your workplace, you may also have a sexual harassment lawsuit under federal law. You must file a complaint (or charge) with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) within 300 days of the sexual abuse or harassment.

The EEOC will investigate your claim and determine whether it will pursue a lawsuit on your behalf. If it decides not to litigate your claim, it will issue a Right to Sue letter. You must file a lawsuit within 90 days of the EEOC’s Right to Sue letter.

    Criminal Cases for Sexual Abuse
Criminal cases are filed by the State of Maryland on behalf of a victim. In order to file criminal charges, you must notify law enforcement of the sexual abuse. The authorities will investigate your claims and a prosecutor may file charges against your abuser. If a suspect is found guilty of criminal conduct, he or she may be sentenced to significant jail time and sex offender registration.

In Maryland, the criminal statute of limitations varies depending on the severity of the offense. The criminal statutes of limitations include:

    • Felony sexual offenses: no statute of limitations, and
    • Misdemeanor offenses: one year from the event.
If you need help determining the correct statute of limitations in your case, contact law enforcement immediately.

    Agree.

We somehow need to make it safe for women to report assaults and give them the support they need to work through it... without going overboard and encouraging frivolous or false assault claims.

Until then, this problem will continue.

I have two grown, beautiful, successful daughters. I was straight up with them since middle school about how much evil there is in the world. Both know how to stay out of potentially bad predicaments and how to take care of themselves if a predicament finds them. They could each put three in the chest and one in the forehead in about 5 seconds. They know how and where to hit an attacker that will make him instantly regret his decision.

I am sorry for your mother's pain. You probably won't believe it but truly am. I do not know of anyone carrying that burden, but I know several friends carrying other life burdens that are probably just as bad or worse.

As I have said before: Sexual violence is one of the lowest forms of human behavior. Lying about it is just as bad.

If Dr. Ford can provide any credible evidence to back up her claim I will be the first to turn on Brett Kavanaugh. So far she has not done that. She has also surrounded herself with highly, highly partisan legal representation. There are many, many reputable legal firms that would have fallen all over themselves to represent her in an ethical manner yet she chose Debra Katz. Dr. Ford has done herself no favors WRT to whom she has chosen to associate with. She chose an ambulance chaser when she needed an Alan Dershowitz.

Our justice system and law enforcement will never be perfect, but it will always be a helluva lot safer for a rape victim to report, get a rape kit done and give us all the forensic evidence we can get than it will be for them to sit on the incident for days, weeks, months, years, decades... and THEN report it. And if we're trying to help women, telling them their "civic duty" involves waiting 36 years is not helpful, IMO. I'm stuck on that phrase, admittedly. I just think it should be jettisoned. She deserves a chance to tell her story. The "civic duty" part, I can do without, in her case.

    Thoughtful response. Thank you.

    Question:
If one of your daughters were raped, considering what you've taught them, would it be their fault?
