I said nothing of the sort. Please refrain from making up what I said. The FBI can investigate because it does investigations for nominees submitted to Congress for confirmation. All that has to happen is that the administration permit them FBI do so. The Trump adminstration will not let the FBI investigate. Again, you brought up the 6 FBI investigations, not me.

FBI develops facts. Then, the hearing can occur focused on those facts and conclusions can be reached. There will be no FBI investigation here because the majority of the Committee does not care whether Kavanaugh is a sexual predator.

Well yes, if those who hold the FBI accountable give the FBI permission to conduct an investigation and the FBI wants to do so... of course they can.

It doesn't mean it's their job or what they are designed to do...

Again, general background checks are not the same as essentially criminal investigations.... but you continue to act as though they are....

He said no FBI investigation reached conclusions, not that all FBI investigations are inconclusive. It’s NOT their job to reach conclusions.

Hint: that’s what the I in FBI stands for. They’re investigators. It’s typically the job of the justice department to reach conclusions. Or in this case, the jud cmte.

This isn’t brain surgery. You just want to spin his context on its ear because it fits your politics to do so.

    Neither do you...

You already had your mind made up about Kavanaugh before the allegations came up...

The investigation just gives you the time, you want....

Name one person on the committee or on this board for that matter, liked Kavanaugh before the allegations were made public, then had a radical change of opinion after they were released, or vice versa...

For at least the fifth time: I have not suggested a background investigation. I have suggested an investigation of the allegations made by Dr. Ford, Ramirez and Avenatti’s client.

Their job is to investigate within their jurisdiction.

"This isn't brain surgery." You just want to ignore the jurisdiction and presumption of innocence "because it fits your politics to do so."

This is so much fun... Your turn... :D

So we have a situation here where credibility is of the essence.

On one side, you have goal posts being moved every 5 seconds. On the other, you have people trying to keep their cool as they run to every new goal post, while keeping their own goal posts firmly in one place.

    Credibility...

Did you watch his Fox News interview? Do you know the allegations against him?

    Who generally investigates sexual assault?

The Feds or local authorities?

I have not made up my mind about the sexual assault allegations. I have made up my mind about Kavanaugh based on his lack of truthfulness as to other issues. But, that is not the subject of this discussion. The sexual assault allegations should be handled properly if they are decisive to undecided senators. To contrast, you have made up your mind on the sexual assault allegations without a full investigation, calling all the witnesses and a fulsome hearing

The FBI investigates nominees to the federal bench. If it is a criminal case, generally local authorities. But, the FBI can investigate sex crimes if there is federal jurisdiction.

He never denied that he drank. That was the point of my (very sarcastic) “well we can prove he went to Yale!” remark.

I get where liberals are trying to go with it, but I don’t think it’s particularly likely that many people are going to find “Aha! We have verified a bunch of tangential parts of the story that are also true of about 95% of other college students, so that proves it.” to be a particularly compelling argument.

He tried to play the choir boy on Fox News, but that narrative keeps getting undercut. The simple point is that it makes him seem untrustworthy.

The hearing is apparently 55 minutes total for each witness. 5 minutes for each Senator. Not exactly the marathon Benghazi type hearing. Then, the Committee votes Friday.

He tried to play the choir boy how exactly? Can you give a specific quote or two where he tried to portray himself as a choir boy in high school in that interview?

Again, you're conflating background checks with essentially criminal investigations...

You can deny it all you want... That's exactly what you're doing...

As a complete aside, I’m not sure this is the good political play Dems think it is. I know that they think trying to create Me Too moments is politically advantageous to them, but I’m not sure it’s a sound strategy in this instance.

Look at who you’re arguing with here over this: a bunch of fairly moderate Republicans, including a number of Never Trumpers.

    No I haven't...

I'm waiting until the hearing... and I'm glad we're having that even though Ford isn't entitled to one... because we just may get closer to the truth...

If the hearing is damning for Kavanaugh, I'll condemn him... That's simply not what I'm expecting...
