It is their job to question the witnesses. It is why they were elected. It starts with gathering evidence before a hearing. The reason they can’t wim with me is because I know how these matters are investigated in a search for the truth. I have defended an innocent person charged with sexual assault and, as a result of investigating before hearings and depositions, was able to gather facts and the case was ultimately dropped. But, you just don’t put someone on the stand without doing the work first unless your mind is already made up. And, that is why the Republican majority cannot won. Let me put it even more simply: the fact that the Republican Senators cannot do their jobs and question the witnesses is exactly why this has to be investigated by professionals before witnesses are put on the stand. I have repeatedly read that posts here that the Senate hearing is an adequate investigation; your email basically acknowledges why it is not. The only reason it is being done this way is because the vote is predetermined

The way to do this is the way we do cases. Investigation, discovery and then have a focused hearing. This is no different. The Republican Senators have admitted that they are out of their depth here and they refuse to do it the right way because they don’t care if Kavanaugh tried to rape her.

C'mon. The guy is credible because he worked a job that gave him a unique insight into how investigations into judicial nominations work. It is irrelevant to the validity of the information he's giving which President he worked under. You can disagree with his conclusions and his opinions, but the information is credible and valid. In fact, as I recall, you claimed earlier in the thread that the FBI couldn't investigate because it was outside its jurisdiction. Are you still sticking to that?

The FBI doesn't need to handle this "quietly." It can investigate public claims.

What I’ve been trying to say. All it takes is one witness who can put together a memory of being there at a party with the two of them and BK is up shite creek without a paddle. Hard to believe such a brilliant legal mind would put his neck out there like that unnecessarily if there was any chance his lie would be exposed.

You do if there are witnesses who could easily pin you as being there.

    You misunderstand...

Kavanaugh has already been through 6 FBI background checks...

Ford and Ramirez aren't even necessarily entitled to a hearing... Maybe you should be thanking the committee for being accommodating and willing to hear her case.

He's up shit's creek if a witness puts him at the party regardless of whether or not he denies being there. He had nothing to lose.

No, you don't. You don't volunteer that information. Any lawyer who isn't an idiot is going to tell you that.

These allegations have not been investigated by the FBI. No need to thank the committee for its kanagaroo hearing. This is not a search for truth. This is not a hearing to which Ford and Ramirez are entitled to. It is an investigation and hearing that the country needs and is not going to get.

    To a very different extent...

Come on, you know better than that...

"If you're innocent, why would you lie about not being there... there's a clear reason to lie about not being there if you're guilty...."

Because they were sat on for two months and brought up at the eleventh hour.... (Assuming the FBI even investigates such matters). They do background checks... and investigations in their jurisdiction... which doesn't cover this case... Perhaps they couldv'e had a good idea where to look with this information in their pocket... but they didn't have it....

That tells me Democrats were either keeping this as an ace in the hole, didn't find the allegation all that credible, themselves, or both.

You’re parked in this thread and making a lot of leaps and assumptions that are likely untrue. If he denies being at the party and a witness confirms otherwise, he likely loses his entire legal career at the very least. If a witness were to simply verify his presence at the party without him having denied it, there’s a lot of ways that could lead. Perhaps he doesn’t make the SCOTUS, but he doesn’t necessarily watch his entire career go down the drain. You really need to take a step back and rest up a bit. You’re not approaching this in a rational manner at all.

No. The FBI can investigate if told to do so by POTUS. It’s apparently a “and other activities that the President may direct” thing.

It is impossible to investigate now because the allegation is now known publicly and any witnesses who are partisans will have a reason to deny or corroborate based of their political beliefs. Prior to it becoming public, that that would be much less likely. Now anyone could say they remember or don’t without having to worry about being charged with lying to the FBI since everyone knows what everyone else has said publicly.

The author is not credible because he is likely a Democratic Appointee in the Justice department under Obama. I don’t care if AG Lynch wrote the article, it was written by a partisan with political motives using an appeal to authority false argument.

Also... because if someone verifies he was, in fact, at the party... he likely loses his legal career even if he's innocent because that's such a weak defense for someone who's apparently supposed to be the next Supreme Court Justice...

Forget passing the character test, he simply wouldn't be qualified for the job...

The opinions on the right are all over the place. The FBI has investigated 6 times, but this is not a matter for the FBI because it is out of its jurisdiction, etc.

And if he is a sexual predator and ends up on the Supreme Court? That is why investigations are done.

    As Joe Biden would say:

"The FBI's findings are always inconclusive, period."

An investigation would neither confirm nor deny that Kavanaugh is a predator...

Can’t find out any of that without trying to investigate. Not impossible. Cosby was just convicted on an old investigation without physical evidence. Mainly, because the investigation turned up other women who establishes pattern evidence. You, like others here and the Republican Senators on the committee have made up your minds based on partisan political views. Just admit it.
