Well if what you are insinuating about Feinstein is true, then these allegations are tainted, at the very least. And if I am Katz and I believed my client at all, my ire would be directed at Dianne Feinstein right now. Not Mitch McConnell. Feinstein immediately neutered Ford's credibility by sitting on this for two months and stating her reason for doing so was that she couldn't be sure the allegations were true. Well if you weren't sure, you should have called for an investigation in July.
Then you have lived a blessed life of not having the misfortune of knowing (or being randomly assigned to live with) crazy people. While the random people I lived with in law school were great, UF gave me someone who was literally crazy (amongst some other issues) to live with my freshman year. That's why, as mentioned above, I went out of my way to avoid him whenever possible. But, that being the case, pardon me if I'm somewhat less inclined than you may be to view a random dormmate as an inherently good and believable source. I know that no one I knew in college or law school could honestly say those things about me. That's not the same thing as pretending that its impossible that anyone dishonestly would.
Other than Kavanaugh, who here can name another judge on the 2nd highest court in the land without looking it up? Who can name at least 3 SCOTUS judges? Kagan, Sotomayor, and Gorsuch. The SCOTUS is a much different animal when it comes to all other courts. SCOTUS nominations are front page news. Other court nominations are not. And many sexual assault cases boil down to little more than he said/she said. But there are ways investigators can at least come closer to who is telling the truth. So let them investigate. What I find disconcerting is Kavanaugh is now trying to portray himself as a choir boy on Fox News when we know by other evidence that when drinking, he was nothing of the sort. Kavanaugh just tried to brush off any poor choices he made as a product of youth, but these are serious allegations made by a woman who has little to gain and a lot to lose, including having to move and receiving death threats. And if her motivation is not putting a conservative judge on the SCOTUS, Gorsuch is farther right than Kavanaugh, yet she nor nobody else came forward with any sexual assault accusations against Gorsuch. If an assault accusation is so effective, why not derail Gorsuch first? Last, Feinstein had the responsibility to do a little research on her own when she first received the letter. If everyone here asked if the letter might be politically motivated, why can't Feinstein ask the same question and check on Ford's credibility before doing anything else? It was the responsible thing to do. As to why Feinstein waited even longer to release the letter, we can only speculate, but the timing does seem to be suspect.
Two things can be true here: A) Any man can be capable of sexual assault / having a drinking problem B) That such a question wouldn't be asked about you publically if there weren't already credible accusations against you.
Maybe I'm just the crazy whisperer? The allegations aren't at all tainted. Feinstein acted like a politician. You can hate her all you want. That doesn't change the allegations made. Republicans can do the right thing, or they can continue the race to the bottom.
Not true on B). Say I run for Senate for Florida and my roommate my Freshman year at UF who was crazy comes out and makes up some wild accusations about me that are flat lies. It can happen and has happened in the past. The problem here is thinking all people are rational. That is a fatal flaw.
Since there is no statue of eliminations why does not ford go to the proper law in the town she says it happened and file a complaint ? The FBI does not have to be involved. In fact I would thank the local law would have a better chance than the FBI to get to truth as they are more familiar with the territory . Strange she does not want to do that
What is creditable when the four people she named as witness have denied it even one of them being a female and her life long friend, Cannot see any credit ability in your statement
Easy. Merrick Garland. But beyond that, and maybe a few of the other higher profile ones, I suspect lawyer is right that the answer there is that the lawyers could.
Is it possible that the FBI didn't even talk to his old classmates, certainly from his college days? If not, that's not what I would call a thorough vetting. I'm not opposed to the FBI investigating these claims but I'm very cynical that would be enough for the Dems unless it dragged out for months which is really their goal. So far all the actual witnesses that have been named by the accusers have failed to corroborate their claims, even denying it happened. Coming forth 2 months ago would prevented this fiasco, so the timing is very suspect.
Did they deny it, or did they say they don't remember? Those are different things. Because I recall the one who is female and a friend of Dr. Blasey saying that she believes Dr. Blasey's allegation. That's incompatible with the claim that they deny it happened.
Do not see anywhere it says she believed Ford "Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford," lawyer Howard J. Walsh said in a statement sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Christine Blasey Ford has claimed that four other people attended a small gathering at which she was allegedly assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh. Three of those people, PJ Smyth, Mark Judge, and Kavanaugh, have already denied any recollection of attending such a party. On Saturday night, Leland Ingham Keyser, a classmate of Ford's at the all-girls school Holton-Arms and her final named witness, denied any recollection of attending a party with Brett Kavanaugh. "Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford," lawyer Howard J. Walsh said in a statement sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee. CNN reports that " Keyser is a lifelong friend of Ford's." Blasey Ford's Female Classmate, Her Last Named Witness, Doesn't Recall Ever Attending Party With Kavanaugh
Most people seem to be able to distinguish a believable accusation with some basis from a complete fiction invented from whole cloth. I mean anyone is capable of murder too, but I don't think many people took Trump's accusation that Ted Cruz's dad was the Zodiac Killer seriously.
Are you suggesting that Christine Blasey Ford did not know Kavanaugh was serving on the DC Court of Appeals? A man who supposedly almost killed her and tried to rape her? You're suggesting she didn't follow his steps or do any sort of background at all as to his whereabouts until his name popped up for the SCOTUS nomination? Please tell me you are joking.
Gotta laugh that the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee are too cowardly to ask the questions themselves. Dr. Blasey has uprooted her life to face this, but they don't have the intestinal fortitude to be responsible for the questions they ask. Weak.
It taints them, because Ford had the option of taking her story elsewhere when Feinstein sat on the allegations. The interview with the Post only occurred after the letter to Feinstein was mysteriously leaked. So, it looks complicit. As in Ford wrote Feinstein, Feinstein sat on the letter, Ford was good with that for nefarious reasons.
