At this point, libs should probably pray to gaia kavanaugh doesn't get confirmed. If he didn't hate dems with the passion of 1000 suns before, he sure does now.
I’m certainly not a fan of blocking a nomination simply because the nominee is from the other party (which is clearly a behavior NOT limited to the dems), but what’s the alternative here? To tell Ford and any other accusers, “sorry, even though none of you had come forward at that time, so they could assess these particular allegations, the FBI already did a background check, so assume your claims are false and won’t entertain them.” Is that what you think is the right course of action?
So if I went to your local police and said that I had paid you a retainer and that you claimed that you provided services that I say you didn’t provide. I don’t have a check or credit receipt, cant recall the reason that I retained you, can’t name the time or place of our meeting, and have no phone records, texts, or emails. You’re telling me that they are going to send an officer or detective over to talk to open an investigation?
Were you sober during this accident? Im guessing you were and glad to see you made out safely from that. My point is how well is your memory from 30 plus years from a night of drinking?
Agree on all of this. If Dems were behaving appropriately, Gorsuch should have won overwhelming approval. There was nothing wrong with his nomination. And on the flip side, investigation is needed on Kavanaugh to clear up these sexual assault issues, before approving him. Or his nomination should be withdrawn and another put forward.
I am afraid about the direction this thread is heading. It is getting too.....close to the magic 136 page count. That is when the real, um, mud slinging begins.
You're spot on. I posted a video link post #2010 it's 9 minutes long but worth a listen. This was a planned strategy from the beginning.
Democrats win-win here. If Kavanaugh is confirmed the landslide in November will be unprecedented. If he drops out then there isnt enough time to vet another candidate before the recess. That Diane F is crazy but apparently a skilled politician. I am laughing and crying inside at the same time.
High school students are more mature and honorable people than most politicians... most emphatically our President. I know that's what you really meant... for accuracy's sake. I'm here for you, buddy.
regardless of which side he hates someone who hates 50% of the country with the passion of 1000 suns shouldn't be on the court in the first place, should they?
I think you know my very low regard for all politicians. Just a little lower regard for one side than the other. The problems that that am most concerned about are fiscal. Both parties are to blame and both will be required to fix.
Amen. We haven't had fiscal accountability in DC in quite along time. One of the reasons I liked Kasich in the last election. Oh well.
I have heard pundits speculating that if Kavanaugh withdraws (without some smoking gun evidence), it could increase Republican voter turnout as the court is an important issue for a lot of GOP voters. So instead of not being motivated to go out because they aren't high on Trump anymore, they circle the wagons around the party. Essentially whoever loses this fight should have the benefit of more pissed off voters headed to the polls. Longer term I think there are more dire consequences for the country. If nominees are subject to the same kind of mud slinging and character assassination that regular politicians are during elections, then we might have a similar dynamic where the most qualified people don't put their name forward. We seemed to have turned a corner where there will be no more RBGs, Kagans and Sotomayors, they will all be Borks, Garlands and Kavanaughs.
Kavanaugh won't be the swing vote. And if the dastardly Dems were really so desperate to go scorched Earth to stop Trump SCOTUS picks, they would have done it to Gorsuch. Why didn't they? Because he was clean. Sure didn't do that when it was Gorsuch nominated. He kills this argument. Kavanaugh is getting nailed because he has massive skeletons in.the closet.
They very well might. And I'd encourage it. I'd then have you arrested and prosecuted for filing a false report.
I have always liked Kasich but was disappointed in his campaign. He didn’t do a good job articulating his positions in a positive way and just fell into the pack
The huge pack of people was a big problem for him. He wasn't able to self promote like the more successful candidates. That led him to getting very little air time and attention despite being the strongest candidate.
Agree he is not an effective campaigner, particularly side by side with a bombastic showman engaged in middle school name calling and insults. Kasich didn't know how to handle it to win or at least compete in those moments on stage, and probably counted on the voters to sort out the nonsense, rather than become enthralled with it. Hopefully campaigning doesn't become the political equivalent of winning the dozens. On second thought... we might be better off.
