Oh wow. When faced with a credible sexual assault charge, they moved things back a whole four days, refused to investigate, refused to subpoena any witnesses, and demanded she be there on that date or else she will be ignored. They're oh so accommodating. Try again.

Does the prosecution get to recall a witness at any point during closing arguments? They can read from the record I believe, but not enter new testimony. That was the point. When testimony is closed, only the prosecutor and defense get to speak.

The prosecutor sums up their case, but doesn’t get to call witnesses. The defense presents their arguments, but doesn’t get to call witnesses. And if the prosecution desires, they can rebutt defense assertions, and then the case goes to the judge/jury.

So are you asserting that Ford is the prosecutor here, or is the Senate the prosecutor? Because if she was called again as a rebuttal witness to rebut Kavanaugh’s statement, the defense could then call other witnesses to rebut her rebuttal. So are we going to have an endless circle of witnesses rebutting each other?

What friends are providing corroboration? I don't believe that she ever used Kavanaugh's name with the therapist, it is only her husband that says she told him it was Kavanaugh.

In other words... they're not being accommodating... they just appear to be accommodating... :D

Ford and Feinstein aren't even trying... they're just issuing demands at the 11th hour as though the committee is desperate to hear her testimony... She should be eager to give her testimony (not saying it would be easy or wouldn't have stress), she came forward... she wanted the story out... Why is she leaving all of this room for doubt by refusing to answer questions? I'd try my best to get my story out there, whether by public or private means... I'd get my story out there...

I sure as heck wouldn't say... "I want an FBI investigation, or I'm not talking at all, but I expect you to believe me anyways and you can't ask me any questions."Unless of course, I lacked confidence in my story...

Kavanaugh has been much more transparent and cooperative about this than she has... which is unusual for a presumably guilty party...

EDIT: And Kavanaugh's wife and ex-girlfriends and co-workers said it would have been tremendously out of character for him to do so... It's not like Ford's husband or therapist were witnesses.... And you expect Ford's husband to not believe his wife after everything she's released? Come on, man... Even if her own husband didn't believe her, he could never say so...

They were engaged in protest. First amendment protected speech.

With police monitoring the protest and ready to step in if anyone went too far. Apparently that did not occur with the protest at Grassley's office (which started this conversation) or some of the other offices, but did occur in a couple of offices, and those protesters that went too far got arrested.

Cool. Police did their jobs. In both cases. Showing restraint where appropriate and making arrests where appropriate.

But even a protest that pushes boundaries does not make the protesters mentally ill. It's a patently silly interpretation of the event and as far from "observation" as you can get. Observations do not include highly subjective interpretations like that. Observations would be... they were singing protest songs... chanting protest chants... filled up the hall in front of the office... blocked the hall (where that occurred... those protesters were arrested per the other article)... etc.

If they threatened anyone (there is no claim of that), citing the threats would be an observation... and would be an observation that you could rightly claim means they were acting in a dangerous fashion. Still wouldn't mean they are mentally ill unless you want to claim everybody who has ever made a threat is mentally ill.

They were pushing the bounds on protest to get attention. Same as it has always been for people who are protesting something. That's the goal - get attention to your cause. And very often people do things in protest knowing they will get arrested. And they're okay with that.

Finally, if these were anti-abortion protesters, instead of women's rights protesters, this narrative would not exist. It is clearly politically driven.

Perhaps she believes she was sexually assaulted but actually wasn't...

You're acting like this being a political hit job is the only possible way her testimony is false... That's simply not true...

Two friends said that she told them before Kavanaugh was nominated about what happened to her. One of them said she described her assailant as a federal judge. Her description of the man to the therapist fit Kavanaugh to a T. It's not a police report. She had no need to use his name.

There are no witnesses here. The Committee barred them. She's acting as the "prosecutor." He's acting as the "defense attorney."

So she made it all up in her mind and convinced herself that it was true in 2012? Occam's razor, man.

How the hell can you prove a negative is positive? How can you refute an accusation with no details given about the accusation? Just as there have been valid accusations, there have been accusations that turned out to be lies. Duke Lacrosse, the California high schooler who spent 3 years in jail before the victim admitted she lied, etc.

What is provable and verifiable about her story? Are there other victims that are willing to testify to a pattern of behavior, like in the Cosby situation? If you start with the assumption that no one would lie about sexual assault, you are saying guilty until proven innocent.

Hostile Takeover was hyperbole, on my part...

But so was your standard of mental illness on your part... Mental illness can range from all sorts of conditions, including non-violent ones...

Either way, you're in the office of a United States Senator protesting as though he doesn't care about women's rights... Outside the office, I have no issue with that... inside the office... That's disruptive...

Even if you're on public property, you can't be causing a disturbance or being disruptive... I don't know about you, but if there were a protest like that inside an office where I worked, I wouldn't be able to work... Heck, I wouldn't even be able to have a face to face conversation with co-workers...

Her memory may not be accurate in all details. Three sides to every story.

If Kavanaugh was much bigger or stronger than her, she could have been frightened by him more so than was reasonable for whatever happened, and could have built that up in her mind. Mistaken identity could be possible as well.

I am not saying either of those things happened, but what I do know is that none of us know, and memories are imperfect.

I do believe that she believes what she's saying. Having this come out years ago in therapy makes it unlikely to me that its just a contrived political attack. But believing it doesn't make it objectively true.

So you believe that memory regression/hypnosis is valid science? Then why do we think those UFO abductees that were anally probed are full of crap? After all, they really believe it happened to them, and since it was a “repressed” memory, it must be true.

    For example...

I'd call Trump Derangement Syndrome a form of mental illness.

All of the people involved in that protest likely suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome... :D

If that's a mental illness, being a Trump supporter must be a serious mental disorder. ;)

In many instances, protests are by design, disruptive. That's the point.

Could you please provide the link to the friends part? The only think I've seen is something about Ford asking her best friend from college if she ever mentioned the sexual assault and the friend said no. Then there was the retracted Facebook post.

I'm not sure what you have read but the only thing I read about what that Ford describe the person she says attacked as "Some one from a elite DC boys high school that was in powerful circles in DC." That isn't very specific to Kavanaugh.

    False...

You said so yourself sexual assault victims often don't speak up after such a traumatic event.

Maybe 2012 happened to be the time she had the courage to speak up. Her memory was also likely distorted due to the length of time that past, making her recollection of the incident quite inaccurate...

That's a pretty simple explanation if you ask me...

It's not TDS to make a rational observation that this president has a host of psychological issues.

Already did a ways back. One friend's name is Rebecca White. The other is Kirsten Leimroth.

What are you talking about? Her description described Kavanaugh to a T. He's exactly what she described.
