There is no way that any person can "tell the truth" if a time and a place is not provided to them. The accusation is so vague on time and place it is impossible for them to do so.

How has the investigation worked if the people of accused of being some place at some time, which are not provided, and have provided sworn statements to the committee and decline to discuss the matter further until a time and a location of the event is provided?

We already have the therapist notes, what more do we need from the therapist? Dr. Ford has already stated she never told anyone until doing so in therapy, 25+ years later, so you want the FBI to investigate to see if she told acquaintances post-2012 if she discussed it? What do you think that will add? As far as Kavanaugh and Judge's friends, Dr. Ford stated she believed that they were so intoxicated that they would not remember the incident, so how would they be able to tell anyone about it?

Now, if you want something investigated, have at it with Willie J Clinton and the allegations of rape and other sexual misconduct thereby.

I am as anti-Trump as you can get, no doubt.

But whether or not a person who claims to have been a victim of attempted rape and imprisonment should get a little time to prep when asked to testify in front of the Senate has nothing to do with my position on Trump.

This isn't even directly to do with Trump. It's about Kavanaugh.

Seems unlikely to me that Kavanaugh did everything he is accused of, as there is nobody else that has stepped forward to confirm any behavior like that (unlike Clinton or Trump). But that doesn't mean this woman doesn't believe it happened, and doesn't deserve a fair hearing.

I hope that story is accurate but I don't see anything in there that quotes Grassley or Dr. Ford's attorney saying that she will attend. Grassley sent a letter to Dr. Ford's attorney saying that, in accordance with established rules for the committee, her written statement is due to the committee by 10 am on Friday morning. I think that is the important deadline to watch.

Edit: I missed that the story is a few days old. We are still waiting to see if Dr. Ford will make tomorrow's deadline for the Monday hearing to move forward.

Is this a joke? If the accusation is a fabrication, there is no reason for him to fear anything. If he wasn't in a room with her, there is no reason to fear anything. It's insanely easy to tell the truth if this didn't happen.

Basically, you THINK nothing will likely come of it. That's a laughably bad reason to oppose an investigation. "We may not be able to resolve the ambiguities, so let's just not try." Sell that elsewhere. Worst case scenario, we have all the information we have now and wasted two or three weeks. Best case scenario, we get helpful information that provides an answer. Any innocent person would be demanding an investigation to clear his or her name. Why isn't Kavanaugh?

What's the risk? He endears himself to Democrats, and the party does him a solid after he loses his seat.

I think there should be an investigation, to get as much information on this as possible and attempt to clear the air for everybody. But to play devil's advocate, it seems unlikely much worthwhile would be found this long after the fact, based on what we know to date.

And how long should such an investigation take? Dems would love for it to take until November, no doubt, and that's just a political stunt.

I assume you are talking about Judge. How can he know if he was in the room with her if he doesn't know what room and when it happened? I can't imagine why a conservative writer living in DC would not want to allow himself to be interviewed by the FBI about an extremely vague charge that could open him up to charges of lying to the FBI. It kind of boggles the mind.

What is the issue with the Judiciary Committee investigators doing that? Why does it have to be the FBI?

Also - what information do you think could turn up that could resolve the ambiguities?

I'm not sure how long the FBI normally takes, but three weeks to a month sounds reasonable to me.

How can he know if he was in the room with her while Kavanaugh allegedly attempted to rape her? Dude, come on.

There's only a risk of a charge of lying to the FBI if he lies. Why would he lie if Kavanaugh is innocent?

Last I read, it sounded like she was willing to have the committee hire their own investigators as long as they are impartial.

Whether the party happened. When it happened. If Kavanaugh was there. If there was a buzz around the school about something happening. If anyone else was at the party. The reliability of her account. What she told others and when. What Kavanaugh and Judge did that summer. There's a ton of information they can try to uncover with a little effort. It might even exonerate Kavanaugh.

"A lawyer for the Senate Judiciary Committee confirms that Judge Kavanaugh has been questioned at length in private, “under penalty of perjury and 5 years of imprisonment if he lies.” Two of the men named in the complaint have sent on-the-record letters refuting the accuser’s charges — letters that are subject to the same perjury laws as is testimony. Kavanaugh’s accuser, by contrast, has done none of these things. To date, she is the only figure within this drama who hasn’t given testimony under oath."

Feinstein hasn't even submitted the original letter she was sent by the accuser to the Senate Judiciary Committee, yet much of the presumption of innocence is falling on Ford. o_O

There is no way on God's green earth that Kavanaugh could ever endear himself to Democrats no matter what he did and you know it.

According to Dr. Ford's statement, Judge was so intoxicated that he would likely have no memory of the event that happened at a time and place that was not provided. Let's just say Judge does talk with the FBI and says he has no memory of the event Dr. Ford describes. Later, somehow or someway, Dr. Ford's account is proven accurate, Judge is now open to charges of lying to the FBI. In addition to being charged and possible convicted of a federal crime, his legal bills would likely be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why risk that exposure and go through that when submitting sworn testimony in the form of a letter will do the same thing.

If Judge was your client, would you let him be interviewed by the FBI?

Can you provide a link? I've only seen the request for the FBI to do it.

How can the question of whether the party happened be answered when no time or place has been provided? Same with Kavanaugh being at it. We've already established that no contemporary accounts would be worth anything since Dr. Ford said she did not tell anyone until 2012, so how could there be any "buzz" about it? The woman who stated on social media that there was "buzz" has now retracted that statement. Dr. Ford has already established that she did not tell anyone until 2012 and she will that opportunity to state who else she told after 2012 to the committee. How would Kavanaugh's and Judge's spring/summer activities matter if a time and a place is not provided?

While I agree with almost everything here, I think there could indeed be "buzz" about what happened at the party originating from other person(s) at the party.

It could be something along the lines of the woman going off into the room with Kavanaugh and Judge for some period of time. Them doing some kind of drunken bragging about stuff they did with her or people just making assumptions that something happened.

If she was in fact traumatized by the event, her friends may have noticed significant changes in her behavior, possibly including her missing school or just shutting down from her friends. Maybe crying over stuff she wouldn't talk about.

Even if some or all of that happened, it's hard to tell who would remember it and to what degree.

An investigation could be warranted but I wouldn't expect much to come of it.

An embassy position in Belize in 2025 isn’t near as attractive as a US Senate seat. He could still have kept his seat if he laid low and was smart about it.
