Give the investigation a one month deadline... With a Hearing exactly a month from now, and we have a deal...

    Totally fine..

It's not going to take 1 month...

Hell, look at the Russia probe...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

To try and establish the truth as to this woman's allegation?'

If we want the truth, the best way to get that is to allow for the investigators to do their jobs. I mean we don't need a special council for this. It shouldn't be that hard. Just some normal FBI agents that already do background checks, give them a time frame of 2 weeks, and a number of agents necessary to interview all the people believed to be in attendance. Try to at least establish those facts first. Then do the hearing, with everyone under oath. Put that on the table, and if that's still not agreeable for the woman then at that point no choice but to forward. Not that hard. How many people are we even talking about? 10? 20?

    Probably true.

To be fair, she tried to do so anonymously, to which she was widely mocked (look up a few pages to see the reactions). She was forced to continue to be mocked or to go public with it. However, I don't think it is absurd to ask for a more professional investigation to proceed political theater, especially given that some of the people that dismissed her when she was anonymous will be sitting on that committee. Would you be comfortable with a group of Senators being the primary investigators of a crime that you allege was committed against you?

Not really how investigations work, but no it shouldn't take a terribly long period of time. The OSU situation took about 3 weeks. That is a closer parallel than the Russia probe, which involves corrupt organizations, organized crime, and foreign governments.

If Republicans are as you guys say, these evil misogynistic pigs who don't care about sexual assault... They'll vote for Kavanaugh anyways...

Democrats have already made up their mind...

So what exactly does the truth accomplish?

Not giving you a blank check... You claim one month should be plenty of time.... Put your money where your mouth is... accept a one month deadline...

You can't offer it. But okay, deal. Let's do the investigation. We have a month. Go tell the FBI.

What two friends? She does not state she told two friends. She was ambiguous to the therapist and says she only named Kavanaugh to her husband. Her letter says nothing about telling two friends. It was her secret until Christmas 2012. Can you post a link about the two friends.

No way you give the dems another month. Feinstein had this allegation one month ago and sat on it. There’s the month for the investigation.... and Feinstein, with Ford’s knowledge and agreement, pissed the month away.

It’s a damn cold world and sometimes ..... irresponsible people do not get what they want, especially when engaging in mindless political games.

All fair points. The FBI is not supposed to be commenting on "ongoing investigations" anyway. Although I'm not sure that would apply in this case. As a rule they don't comment on ongoing CRIMINAL investigations, not sure that applies to high profile "background checks". That seems like something they should be able to confirm. Problem is it would be up to the White House to order the background check, and it seems like the WH and Republicans are trying to push it through ahead of any time for an investigation.

Yep and I agree and I get that fear especially bc the incident occurred many years ago and there is no way to probe one way or the other this we are left to testimony and Also I think their age (teens) shapes perceptions. The other side, however, is that the allegations might very well be true and if so it poses some issues especially if perceived as simply trying to smear her and/or dismiss out of hand her allegations given history

I'm fine with a one month deadline. Interview all three in the room, the therapist, circle of friends. Shouldn't take more than a month to come up with who is credible and who is questionable. Compare the therapist notes with Dr. Ford's statement today and look for consistencies. Ask around what kind of kids Kavanaugh and Judge were. Ask any teachers who are still around today.

The bottom line is Kavanaugh is up for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. And there seems to be, at least on the surface, a credible accusation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted someone and has, if guilty, been lying about it for years. So take the time and investigate. If Kavanaugh is innocent, what's a month of waiting for a lifetime appointment? If the evidence points to Kavanaugh being guilty, then he doesn't belong on the SCOTUS.

    Out of context much?

In this case, say... the worst case-scenario happens despite all odds...

Say Kavanaugh actually sexually assaulted her, say the investigation goes somewhere, say we're able to find evidence that Kavanaugh assaulted her along with pertinent details of the event... It shouldn't make a difference...

Republicans are all misogynistic pigs who will vote for Kavanaugh anyways because they don't care about sexual assault... or about women, right?

And Democrats, being the true heroes that they are, in waiting for the evidence... and actually standing up for victims of sexual assault... They vote against Kavanaugh...

But they don't have enough... and Kavanaugh is the next Supreme Court Justice, anyways... After all, this isn't about Democrats trying to retake the Senate and win the votes that way, right?

    Here's the first (Rebecca White):
Christine Blasey Ford said she was "fighting for her life" during alleged Brett Kavanaugh assault, friend recalls

    Here's the second (Kirsten Leimroth):
Christine Blasey Ford feared attacks over Kavanaugh claims

Both say that she told them about the incident before Kavanaugh was nominated.
