IDK about that. Trump's base doesn't care. They could pick Senators from states that heavily support him to attack her without any blow back in those states. Whether that would cost them votes more broadly in the midterms is another issue. Not sure, but my guess is that candidates in closely contested states would just distance themselves from any negative attacks on this woman and emphasize other areas of support for Trump's policy, need to continue to make conservative judicial appointments, etc.

The first time she ever discussed this matter was during a marriage counseling session, 25+ years later, where she described being attached by four guys, now two, and she can't remember the time and place of the event. Her friends describe her as a liberal. If she were to cause Kavaunagh's nomination to be withdrawn and then the Democrats win the Senate and Merrick Garland ends up filling Kennedy's seat, she will be lionized by the Left for the rest of her life. This nomination has been billed by Democrats as the battle over the repeal of Roe vs Wade and she would be viewed as the single person who saved it. While I agree that this is going to impose a cost on her personal life, I don't think it is accurate to say she has nothing to gain by coming forward.
Ayotte is a former prosecutor and Attorney General of New Hampshire. She is also not a current sitting US Senator. If the roles were reversed, the Democrats would be bringing in someone from the outside to do the same thing rather than letting K. Harris do the questioning.
I don’t think this will have any negative impact on her. She will be a hero to the left regardless of the outcome. In fact, if Kavanaugh is appointed to the scotus, she becomes a leftist martyr who will have every liberal network and media outlet paying her for her story and/or to speak on women’s issues. Does anyone think she cares what a conservative thinks or says about her? This is a win/win for the woman alleging the incident and a lose/lose for Kavanaugh.

Aside from that, while the timing of this is convenient for Dems trying to delay the vote on Kavanaugh, there is nothing convenient about this for the woman involved. This woman just knowingly volunteered to put put herself in the cross hairs of a complete shit storm that she'll probably never fully get past, due to ongoing comments/attacks from partisans who don't like that she is doing this. Unless some Dem donor in the background has a big pay day lined up for her, there is no upside in this for her, other than her sacrificing herself for what she perceives as a fight for justice.
I really doubt that, actually. I would think that they would have Democratic Senator women do it (they do have a more extensive bench from which to draw). That is basically an admission of a plan to smear in a way that people won't like and that they need a woman's face on it, but not one that they care about. I know the Republican Senate women bench isn't exactly long, but the optics of having to bring in a non-senator because your line of questioning is inappropriate from men and the women can't be trusted to do it properly (and it would possibly be viewed as inappropriate from them) seems like an interesting admission on the part of Republicans. One that will be pointed out.
The majority of that were not quotes. It was an attempt to smear Judge by twisting his words to fit how the Media Matters and Mother Jones want to portray him. It's what one would expect from Media Matters.

Maybe you should step down off your high horse for a minute and realize that decisions made by teenagers in high school often aren't as well reasoned as decisions made by adults. Guys like Weinstein and Clinton are predators. Teenagers are usually driven by hormones and inexperience. I am not excusing behavior where you have a non consenting party, but in real life these situations often involve two parties exploring unknown territory and unsure how to proceed based on the reactions of the other. That's why there is a much bigger effort towards education these days than there was in the 1980s.

I have a very difficult time seeing all that play out. The only thing that is crystal clear is that she is going to have some short term hell to pay, along with longer term attacks from people on the right. If the Dems win the Senate, which seems unlikely at this point, they could do the McConnell thing and just put a stop to all judicial nominations until a Dem POTUS is elected. Perhaps she would get "lionized" for that. But it would be at least another two years before getting a Dem POTUS on board (if a Dem candidate wins in 2020), and more liberal judges could be appointed.
Your right, because Cory Booker is going to completely go along with letting Harris have all that camera time on a highly publicized event just prior to a the start of both their campaigns. This isn't about the number of women Republican senators able to do the questioning. If one side is going to turnover all questioning during a hearing, they typically bring in someone from the outside to handle it, as Senators don't have the time necessary to go through all the preparations and still do their day jobs. It is easier and smarter to turn it over to a single, outside person who has a lot of time to prepare.
It's not the Trump base that's the problem. It's the suburban women. They need them to keep the mid-terms from being a disaster.

But we do know she's a dem donor, her attorney is a leftist hack and she evidently cannot remember the time or place that she was attacked by four guys, now two. If she was a virgin at the time and not getting drunk and screwing guys at the age of 15, I think it is reasonable to expect her to remember the details. If she can't, then that might suggest that she was not as harmed by the event, if it happened, as she would like us to believe. I can remember the key events in my life dating back to age 4/5. What the hell is her excuse - she blocked it out?
