I don't know what he did or did not include as I haven't seen the contract nor was I the OP for this tidbit.
I am sure SS was feeling really good about seemingly securing a massive splash hire. Let's also be honest, CK was calling the shots in that negotiation. I am only going off what I use to do as an agent.

Keep in mind, Trace Armstrong, who still resides in Gainesville and represents a number of high profile coaches has yet to he heard of or mentioned here.

Agreed, I think the real deal is it was "done" in principal. I heard the post dated contract piece Monday but I thought it was odd. I have a hard time believing something was put on paper. The exact rumor I heard was CK had inked it just not UF, which also sounded like hogwash - hence why I didn't share it.

You would look a man in the eye, shake his hand in a verbal agreement, all the while planning to stick him in the back? You sound proud of that @gatorade - SMH

I think you are missing my point. It wouldn’t be a “trap” at all, rather an offer that you either sign or don’t sign. If you still want to talk money or other provisions fine... then the offer changes, and you either commit (or not) to that.

Any kind of delay in effectiveness of the deal is a huge red flag. If that was agreed to, then we most certainly have more than just one fool that got on that plane to go up there. We should all be concerned now. This was a complete disaster. There is no sugar coating it. We went from a position of complete strength in the hiring process to twisting in the wind.

I honestly feel there was an element of "F it, I've got no one else to deal with at the moment, so let's explore the fanboy favorite and see where it goes", to SS's moves with CK.

I don't think it was a coincidence that all intel pointed to it being done (one way or the other) this weekend. Grab a big fish or move on to the expected window of negotiations.

This is a dirty business. Hate to break it to you but all coaches/agents lie. Every one of them. Even the honest ones.

Probably so. And not that worried about Kelly being a dick right now...more worried about our incompetent UAA.

Not proud at all. The business is tough and relentless. Lack of moral compass. So I quit.

The clarity of hindsight. No one walks from a target that is in demand simply because they might be negotiating with others. You make your best offer to garner a final deal. I doubt the outcome was a shock to SS, simply a calculated risk that had no downside for UF other than ultimately not getting CK.

All this other nonsense is UF fan butthurt and baggage because their beloved school was 'rejected' and Bruins now have some kind of perceived bragging rights.

There's too much riding on the need for the coach to be a man that the administration can trust - not only to do what he says he'll do, but also to keep the damn program out of trouble with the NCAA. What in hell is the point of all the 'vetting' and 'show cause' due diligence everybody was demanding of our administration before getting anywhere near Kelly, if you can't even trust the guy to respect and honor his agreement?

This isn't a hired gun, or an entertainer, or a mercenary, or even an athlete we're trying to partner with here - it's a head coach of your football program, and father figure to dozens of teenage kids. I say BS to all your "hate to break it to you, but. . . " garbage - if you can't trust the guy you don't want him. End of story

That sounds better to me. I don't give a shit how tough and relentless a job is, this isn't an individual, it's a freaking coach

Quit playing the Monday morning quarterback gig. The guy obviously wanted to be on the west coast, and the circumstances say more about Chip Kelly's personality and morals than the UAA's strategy, which was obviously doing whatever it could to get Chip to UF. The leverage Chip had in the negotiations was the product of his previous success and is simply inescapable regardless of who he was negotiating with.

The rejection would be more understandable that the swindle. I don’t buy in that UF’s legal team and SS would be put in that position.

Perception is reality in this case. We got punked by a second-tier football program.

Your speaking from your heart. I am speaking from experience. For the record I completely agree with you.
Reality is what I know. There is real money to be had and lost here. Money makes people do fucked up things.
