OK what I would like to happen is not what I think will happen. I am a fan of Dino Babers. I think he would build a complete program of competitive team while guiding these young men in becoming good citizens. I don’t think for a minute he will be a look from the admin. There you go.
He looked very bad at times. What I saw today against FSU I don't think I've ever seen. Not here, not other teams. He looks like a high school sophomore. Driskel at least had some semblance of reading a defense.
I'd like to believe this but not so sure. Timing hasn't seen much improvement all year, happy feet at the slightest pocket breach, decision making on the run, etc. I'm becoming more pessimistic as of late ... Today definitely didn't help.
I mean this guy completed fewer than 50% of his passes against one of the saddest FSU defenses in decades. He threw 3 INTs and had at least two surefire INTs dropped. I'm not saying Franks has no potential. I still hope he can be coached up. But it's one thing to stare down a receiver when they're isolated and still make the throw. It's another to stare down a receiver with three defenders within a yard and still make the throw. He looked lost in a way I've not seen in a long time.
Those were never things that were going to improve this year. The coaching and scheme didn't change, and Franks' confidence got progressively and progressively worse as the season went on (compounding his problems).
With Kelly going to UCLA, it feels like the Choke at Doak. We haven’t lost anything, but it sure does feel like it. That being said, I like Scott Frost. Experience on both sides of the ball. A winner as a player and a coach. What’s not to like? Kelly is to Frost as Parcells is to Belichick. Gooooo Gators!
Yea, they were. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/boxscores/2014-10-18-florida.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/boxscores/2014-10-04-tennessee.html
Let's not count those chickens until they hatch. Our second losing season in five, whiffing on a coach after finding a way to ditch our last one and not pay his severance. It looks dire, and to reignite it we need a real catalyst. It's either a player (as with Leak, with Zook) or a coach (Meyer-type).
I'm really not talking statistics (because those do not tell the story), I'm talking on-field decision making and execution.
Yeah i don't see Dino being in play. He did very well early in the season with some big wins, but it seems to me that Scott is looking for a different type of coach.
I do agree, I think the best case situation he would have some more seasoning. But I like who he looks to as his mentors.
Because again, Franks had at least two surefire picks dropped today, those don't count in the stats but watching him play you saw them coming.
Staring down coverage and throwing late are symptoms of a QB who has lost his confidence and doesn't trust his eyes. Did you see the dig route on 3rd down where Powell got open and Franks was looking there the entire way? He didn't pull the trigger. That tells you that the kid doesn't trust what he's seeing. That's a confidence issue. These things are all fixable. But it means being patient. That's not something people like to hear.
That's buyable in week one. If it happens every week in between ... less so. Look, like I said, I see Franks' potential. But ... he looks very, very bad right now. Such that I'm losing confidence a good QB coach can fix it in three years.
Franks was always bad . go back and watch the under armor game. If my memory serves me correctly he threw 4 interceptions in a quarter during that game.
I was at the Missouri game. Driskel's performance was worse than Franks. He was a turnover machine and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn all day long. He had four turnovers (two for TDs) despite being benched midway through the third quarter. Regardless, they both stunk. Yet, Driskel looked pretty darn good playing QB for Louisiana Tech the next year.
